Thomas Modre, the ex-sergeant of police for the 59th Battalion, on re- mand-from Wednesday, was found guilty on Thursday morning by Ma- gistrate Farrell on a charge of be- ing "drunk and disorderly," and was sentenced to one month in jail. The accused wanted the Magistrate to impose a fine, but the Court would not consent, Moore had' been drinking, and this was the cause of all his trouble. It was alleged that while very drunk, and after he had been ordered out of BY his rooming house ,he pulled out his | bayonet and threatened to do bodily harm to a man who was endeavor- ing to quiet him. He was beld un- til the police arrived, and then he was placed in a cell at the police sta- tion. The Governors of Kingston Gen- eral Hospital met on Wednesday af- ternoon, this being the first meeting after the summer holidays. The Committee of Management re- ported that arrangements were being made with the different churches for holding Hospital-8unday as usual, and expressed the hope that the of- ferings would be very large, as with the high prices that prevail for ev- erything used in the hospital, par- ticularly drugs and provisions, the expenses were gradually creeping up, .and very few appeals had been made this year to the public on be- half of the hospital. The Medical Superintendent re- ported that August had been a par- ticularly busy one throughout.the whole institution.
