The Whig"s Fund is already considerably in excess of $800, -and to-day a cheque for the first installment of the Locomotive Works' contributions, 3 was handed in by the trea surer of the men's fund, T. E. Doo lan This will boost the fund well up over the thousand dollar mark. A committee of the employees has charge of the fund Cards have been distributed among the men asking them to con- tribute 10¢ a week for three months and the response has x most prompt and hearty, as ¢ easily be seen "by the size of the first cheque which ached the Whig Offi This paper will glailly acknowledss 1 contribution 3 were the large amount of mone ive Works will ibuted After all of the Whig Fund had been ex ed to Mr. Wheatley and the Com tee, they, with a loyalty to home 11 terests that is gratifying, decided to amalgamate their fund with the hig's v One dime each from all those va 'ana 219.65, s in which which the raise Id the de sever N the payroll every week does not make, , a great drain on any individual, but at the same time this amount repre sents a contribut the cause which is. substantial when the total proceeds are considered Just wha does it mean? To insure the systematic supply of that which is most needed by those at the front, more organizations such as that instituted by the Canadian | Locomotive Company are required To officers and employees of other Kingston industries the Whig would say: Why not establish such an or- ganization in your plant, and thus lend a hand in this worthy cause? Some of your fellows are on the fir- ing line. Some are perhaps in hos- pitals, and you can imagine how much they would appreciate this gift from you. It will mean but little to vou and your fellow members, but it will mean a whole lot to the boys in the trenches. { The Cana | has set a sp nce' Locomotive Works id example.
