Queen's Stationary Hospital In October, 1914, as soon as the Hosp opened following the outbreak of the war, the Medical Faculty offered to recruit the personnel of a Stationary Hospital of 200 beds, and named Dr. Frederick Etherington to take command. The offer was not accepted till the end of March, 1915. Recruiting and mobilization were completed quickly and the wiit-Jeft Kingston May 5th. Upon arrival in England it was found that their ser- vices 'were not required at once in France, so they were placed in charge of a tent hospital at St. Martin's Plain. Here they stayed fo x weeks and in that time established a reputation for efliciency The War Office ordered that the hospital be enlarged to 100 beds and that reinforce- ments be sent for that purpese. Four officers and 43 men were sent in July, 1915, reaching England August 1st, Wounded in five places. (Completely recovered and returned to England. when the whole unit deft for Egypt. They arrived in Alex andria' August 12th, proceeded to Cairo, and opened: 'the hospital in the Abbassia 'Barracks. Here they: remained till Aptil 10th, 1916. During the eight months spent in Egypt between five and six thousand patients passed through the hospital. Their work was highly commended by the authorities of the British Army in Egypt. On April 21st the hospital was at Southampton and immediately proceeded to France Word has not been re- ceived as yet.in regard to the exact location, but there is no doubt that they are again open for work. In: December, 19 the War Office determined to re- orgamize it into a general hospital of 1,040 beds. Orders were. received to recruit 20 officers, 1 warrant officer, 6 sergeants, 79 men and 48 nurses. 'This was done in Janu- ary list, these reinforcements leaving Kingston Feb. 28th. While waiting in England for the return of the original unit their services have been utilized in various hospitals and camps, It is assumed that they re now united and with the hospital which is now officially known and may be addressed at No. 7 General Hospital (Queen's), Canadian Expeditionary Forces, France.
