MAJOR "TOUT" LECKIE WENT TO ASSISTANCE Of Wounded Man, and Both Were Killed By a Shell. . R. Leckie, city treasurer. of Hamilton, has received the following letter of condolence from Lieut.-Col, Genet, in connection with the death of his son, Major Norman Leckie, a graduate of Queen's and a noted Rughy player: "Dear Mr. Leckie---It is with the very deepest regret that I wish to in- form you of the death on Easter Sun- day, April 23rd, of your gallant son, Major N. E. Leckie, who has given his life for his country and the great cause in which we are all enlisted. "He was loved and respected by all who knew him, and I personally feel his loss very keenly. . He was a splendid officer, always prompt and zealous in the execution of his duty, always cheerful and bright, with a kind consideration for the welfare of his men. Indeed his death was due to the fact that he had gone to the assistance of a man who had been wounded by a shell Another came and killed them: hoth. His end waa peaceful and he knew no suf- fering. "I desire to assure you of my own deep sympathy and that of every of- ficer and man in this battalion in your sad bereavement. "I am fully convinced that his all too brief life has not been in vain, and we shall all regard him as an ex- ample of all that-e man should be, honest, upright and sincere." Pte.
