London, Sept. 1.--Hundreds of Irishmen, young and old, are walk- ing the streets of many English towns because they have been re- fused employment' on harvest work, in quest of which they crossed the Irish. Sea. The English laborers have barred the Irish, and the Eng- lish farmers refuse places to them for fear of getting into difficulties with the native labor. St. Paul, Sept. 1.-----Net earnings of the Twin City Rapid Transit for July amounted to $360,702, as compared with $296,376 a year ago, an increase of $64,326. New York, Sept. 1.---It is under- stood that earnings /6f New York Cen- tral in July established a new high record. Gross was in the vicinity of $17,000,000, an increase of about 26 per cent. over 1915, New York Central proper is now earning at the rate of between 16: per cent. and 17 per cent. on its $249. 590,000 stock.
