Jeremy Taylor, manager of the Bank of British North America, re- ceived word on Wednesday that his son, Lieut, Kenneth Taylor, had been wounded severely in the leg in the recent action or the Somme front, and is now in St. John's hospi- tal, Etaples, France. After qualifying as. a lieutenant from the -Queen's University contin- gent\of the Canadian Officers' Train- ing 'Qorps, Lieut. Taylor was Cap- poirited to the 59th Battalion, and was later appointed musketry in- structor, when the 59th Battalion was broken up as a unit in England, Lieut. Tay- lor was among the first of the of- ficers qualified to go to the front. The Brockville Recorder congratd- lates Patrick Donnelly, who, on Thursday last, was elected for one of the Vancouver seats Yn the British Columbia legislature. Mr. Donnelly Is a young man whose future is as- sured. He is possessed of great sa- gacity for he was a few years ago a resident of Brockville and when he wanted a life partner he selected a Brockville girl for his partner in Miss Jennie Bates, daughter of the late George Bates; and a sister of Mr. Andrew Bates, now of Brockville. The two young Germans held at the police station for the past week, suspected of having assisted in the escape of two Germans from Fort Henry, find it difficult to put in their time. They are wondering what will be done to them, 'and if they will be soon transferred to Fort Henry. They are great singers, and can sing both 'English and German songs in great style. On Wednesday morning, the wed- ther was quite chilly insthe cells and in order to keep warm the Germans took possession of a couple of khaki coats, which had been left there by deserters and donned them.
