The Y.W.C.A. rooms had accommo- dated the 1LO.D.E, W.C.T.U. and Mothers' meetings at various times. Positions are being secured - for young women. Recently a penniless woman and two who were homeless have been taken care of. In closing her report Miss Foster thanked the president and others for their assistance and encourage- ment. Reports from various branches of Y.W.C.A. work were also submitted to the meeting. On Saturday afternoons there is children's _ bible study, choruses, 'games, sewing, etc. After reading this, report on Junior Work," Mrs. H. Breck gave the treasurer's report which was quite satisfactory. Miss Lockett read the membership committee's report and this was fol- lowed by a discussion on the advisa- bility of canvassing for funds on similar lines to that of the Y.M.C.A. The report by Miss O. Chown upon the work of the educational commit- tee was very satisfactory. This branch--of work includes lectures, classes in bookkeeping, first ald, home nursing and Saturday after- noon rambles. Miss Isabel Ross, who read the so- cial committee's report, stated that owing to the war there were not as many entertainments being held. The financial committee's report was read by Mrs. McCallum. Rev. E. R. McLean gave a splendid address on "The Social Aspect of the Gospel" taking up the impressions he gained at the recent Social Service meeting in Toronto. , The "following were elected mem- bers of the Board: Mrs. Logie Mac- donnell, Mrs. F. Welch, Mrs. H. Breck, Miss F. King, Mrs. C. Clark, Miss Florence Wilson, Mrs. McNeill, Miss Lillian Sanderson, Miss Isabel Ross and Mrs. R. J. Rodgers. LT. "JACK" HANNAFORD REPORTED MISSING And Believed Killed--He En- listed When the War Broke ut. On Friday afternoon, Mrs. E. J. B. Pense, West street, received word that her nephew, Lieut. "Jack" Hannaford, was officially reported | missing and believed killed. Lieut. Hannaford is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Maitland Hannaford of Montreal. He enlisted in August 1914 in the 2nd Battalion and went to the front as a corporal He was wounded in the knee in March 1915 and invalided to Canada where he spent some time . Then he qualified as lieutenant at the School of In- fantry at Barriefield camp and went overseas last summer with the 93rd Peterboro Battalion. In England he was. transferred ito the 20th Battal- ion and has been at the front for some months in the thick of the fighting. ' » Lieut. Hannaford proved himself a splendid soldier. Before war broke out he was with the: Kingston branch of the Bank of British North Am- erica and was one of the city's most popular young men. PAGE NINE TT -- Home For Aged People. Kingston, May 19.--(Teo the Bdi- ter): The commission which is now managing the Home for Aged Pecpie, under the direction of the City Coun- cil, have been pressed wild the de- cessity for enlarging its dormitory and dining-room accommodation, Tis impsovement was contemplat ed some years ago, and, at the re- quest of the Board of Directors, plans and specif cations were prepared' They called for an expenditure of about $10,000, and as the money was not them available, the undertaking had to be abandoned Tor the time be- Since then the number cf attend- ants has been very much increased -- thirteen aged people from the coun- ties have been admitted since the be- ginning of this year--and at the pre- sent time the institution 's occupied to its fullest capacity. An emlarge- ment is, therefore, made obligatory. The question is, how can it be fin- anced? There are two ways open to the commissioners. They can appeal to those = who are possessed of the means for a loan conditionally. There may be in the city one who will 'mitate a certain benefactor of Queen's University with regard to tae erection of one of its buildings. For a use of a sum sufficient to erect a wing at the Home for Aged People the commissioners will be will- ing, I think, to pay interest for the while, if the institution éventually enjoys the amount invested as a leg- acy. or the commissioners can appeal to the council for such a sum as will be needful for the purpose, the amount to be raised by the issue of debentures, payable within a certain number of years, with interést, and repayable to the city as legacies are left to the Home, plus, of course, any sum annually which can be saved, in receipts over expenditures, by good management. The legacy plan is to be preferred. Speaking of legacies, I am glad to say that during the last week the house received a bequest of $600 from the Catharine Brown estate, and it will be duly and properly ac- knowledged when the commission- ers meet again-- Faithfully, --R. MEEK. "DAUGHTER OF THE GODS." Go With the Children Into the Land of the Fairies. "Daughter of the Gods" with An- nette Kellerman will be shown at the Family Theatre Monday, Tues- day and Wednesday, May 21st, 22nd; and 23rd.
