HE WAS CIE A CHANCE | MAN VICTIM OF DRUG HABIT UP FOR VAGRANCY, A Week Spent in Jail Made a New Man Out of Him-- Has Promised That He Will Quit { Using the Dope. | A week ago Leroy Larue found it {a very difficult matter to stand be- {tore the Magistrate when he was ar- iraigned on a charge of vagrancy. | He » has been using dope, and whep | ered in by Constable John Nay- {lon was a physical wreck. The {magistrate sent him to jail for # | week. A Thursday morning Larue again | appeared b®ore the magistrate, and he was an altogether different man Aw eck in the jail had worked wond ters for him. He stood ereet, and court officials could not:believe thé: he was the same fellow who had been in the court a few days ago. Larue is an 'able-bodied ~~ young fellow, and hls case is a most piti lable one. He has been taking hero- {in, and apparently has become & slave to it. Magistrate Farrell told Laru that he would give him a chance and urge ed him to leave the dope alone." He --bas promised to do so, and as he walked out of the court 4 free man he determined to make a new start and keep on the right track. Time will tell 41 he is ablé to stand the test. The evils of the drug habit were shown in the case of this young man. On the day he was arrested and the next 'day when he 'was being remov- od to the jail he could not walk Svithout the help of a constable. While in the cells he begged to be given some dope to quiet his nerves. on Repimnd ¢ | KINGSTON CURLERS WIN.
