A Fine Telephone Display in R. J. Rodger's Window. A very intgresting display, one which is attracting a great deal of attention, is to be seen in one of the windows of R. J. Rodger; dewel- er, Princess street. It is a Bell telephone extithition, arranged by J. A. Goryie, jr., local manager of the ok dg and tells a story of the wonderful progress made in the telephone, ong, of the most useful instruments in the world to-day. One of the first telephones turned out forty-thfee years ago, occuples a prominent place alongside the tele- phone of to-day, and the exhébit alsb the early days of the telephone, with other necessary apparatus. A neat card is attached to each article shown, with a note of explanation. There is a photograph of Alexander Graham Bell, the father of the tele- phone, aldo a picture of his home at Brantford, where telephone experi- ments. were made, a photo of the me- morial recently unveiled in his hosor at Brantford, a picture of the won- derful gathering held at Montreal ¥ munication was opened Montreal and Vancouver. There is also a picture of Thomas A. Watson, who as a young man built the first telephone and served as engineer. Included in the collec. tion is a telephone directory of the City of Hamilton for 1879, which contained about twenty-five or thirty names. Photos are also shown of old and new switchboards, and one of special interest is that showing boy operators at work, The display has been warmly praised by citizens, and Mr. Gorrie, the energetic manager of the local branch, is to be warmly commended for bjs enterprise.
