A change of tactics in the appre- hengion of deserters under the Mili- tary Service "Act is shortly to be made. The new methods, it is un- derstood are calculated to produce even better results than have so far been attained, tor James Graham, the Dominion Po- lice engaged in the work have since Saturday noon picked up nearly 30 suspected deserters and draft evad- ers around Ottawa. Among these were the five members of the Renfrew hockey team, arrested while en route to Ottawa. The method employed by the po- lice at present in the apprehension of draft-evaders, which centres about railway stations, and places greatly frequented by young men, such as pool-rooms and dance halls, is fairly effective. Suspects are taken up, and, if they have not in their possedsion papers proving them not liable for military service, what- ever explanations they have to make are made at the Provost Marshal's office, Of the 30 arrests made over the week-end in this way some twenty are being investigated, and those of the prisoners who are found lable for service will be sent from Ottawa to Kingston to be put into khaki and drafted into the Depot Battalion.
