C. G. Golledge Wounded. Mrs. Sarah Barrett, 19 Balaclava street, was notified Friday morning that her son, Pte. Walter Barrett, has received gunshot wounds in the chest and was in hospital at Rouen, France. Pte. Barrett went overseas With the 38th Battalion, and has been in France two years. A bro- ther went over with the 263rd Bat- talion from Kingston and is now in Engiand. Pte. C. G. Golledge, The list of wounded contains the name of Pte. C. G. Golledge, of Ports- mouth, Mr. Golledge was born dn England and enlisted at Iroquois on Jan. 18th, 1916, with the 164th Bat- talion. He trained at the Barriefield Camp during the summer of 1916 and went overseas that year, embarking at Halifax on Oct. 25th. His next of kin is Mrs, Emma Golledge, Ports mouth, Other Casualties, Word has been received by Mrs, James McMaster, Portsmouth, that her brother, Burt Trowse, of Arn- prior, was severely wounded on Aug. 13th, and has since died of wounds. Pte. Barney Slater, whose home is given as Kingston, is also reported to have died of wounds, THEY DO NOT LIKE CONFINEMENT IN "PEN One Conscientious Objector Would Now Volunteer For Any Service. It is reported that some of the conscientious objection to military service which characterized the ten mén who were sentenced to ten years In the provincial penitentiary at Portsmouth is being turned into vehement objection against further confinment behind the big walls at Hatters' Bay. One who visited the men in their cells is reported to have sald that two days after their arrival some of them were quite ready to fight. "If they will let me out of here you can be sure that I'll make a bee- line for the first recruiting office and volunteer for seryice anyhere," one is reported to hafe =aid when being medically exami . Tug Argyle Was Able to Effect Oper- ation in Portsmouth Bay, The 'tug Argyle was able to turn the scow which upset with a loss of 280 gross tons of coal several days ago near Nine Mile Point. was towed to Portsmouth Bay and after it was righted on Thursday, the Donnelly Salvage and Wrecking Com- pany's fleet pumped out the water that had been shipped. The damage done to the scow was not extensive and it is thought that it 'upset because of a leak in the forward portion. The forward deck was down several feet when the boat overturned. --_-- . George Marsh, Capé Vincent, N.Y., says the Eagle, died at the City Hos- pital, Watertown, early Monday, af- ter an operation, at the age of seven- ty-three years. Mr. Marsh was born on Wolfe Island, but had been a resi- dent of Cape Vincent for twenty-sev- en years. He was much respected in the community, a kind and indulgent husband and father. Besides his widow, he is survived by two sons, Sidney W., Cape Vincent, and Chester G., of Carleton Island, and four daughters, Mrs. Asa Hough, Wolfe Is- land; Mrs. R. W.
