After showing up as an aggres- glve and well-balanced aggregation at the Labor Day celebration the baseball nine of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery absolutely fell down at the game on Saturday afternoon played against the Red Sox. It was the most spectacular exhibition of flagrant errors ever played on a local ball field, and there was not a vestige of team work on the sol- diers' part. How they managed td revert from thelr excellent showing on Labor Day to the mess they con- cocted on Saturday is a mystery. Thirteen errors were chalked up, again them by the scorer, but several were allowed to pass by so umerous were the mishaps. The inal score was 13 to 1 in favor of the Red Sox, and adherents of the soldiers stated that the unlucky number was the cguse of their de- feat, inasmuch as thirteen runs and thirteen hits were registered by the Red Sox and-thirteen errors by the batterymen. Ellis, in Queen Street Methodist church, on Sunday morn- ing, preached a sermon on "Con- nexional Obligations," showing the relation of one church to another and the connexional, rather than the inde- pendent, spirit pertaining to the Methodist body. He especially asked for support of the superannuation fund, a fund which maintained the ministers when they were retired from active work. Methodist minis- ters had no choice of appointment. They went where sent and accepted such salary as was provided by the people to whom they ministered, The mission and sustentation funds, how- ever, were utilized as far as possible to bring the salaries up to a minimum amount. His sub- ject was reconstruction after the war and the great opportunities it will offer for the fullest exercise of Christian principles and virtues. He laid particular emphasis upon the great importance of charity and kind- liness in human relationships, the re- sults of which might be likened to a fountain in a mountain which over- flows forming a stream down through the hills causing vegetation to' flour- ish, flowers and fruit to grow and the birds to sing. He referred to inter- national realtionships after the war and predicted that the practice of Christianity would pave the way for better understanding.
