The Grand presented a high class bill last evening in the form of the five-act Metro feature, "The Demon,' and this wonderful picture was well received by the capacity audience, Edith Storey, one of Metro's cele-| brated stdrs, played the titular role and had in her support many other favorites who gave the picture a touch of distinction that made it! much mote interesting and entertain- ing. The story dealt with a young American youth who went to Atrica | to claim his fortune and while there he bought a girl from amr Algerian slave market, He put her in a school | and many vears after he again re-| turned to that country and found the girl, now grown to womanhood, and | by so doing he also found that she; was the real heiress to the fortune that he had received. Besides this remarkable photoplay there was also the Pathe News, a Lonesome Luke comedy, an O. Henry story and other | good reels. An act of exceptionally | good vaudeville, which consisted of O'Brien and Ainsley, singing cartoon- ists, completed this programme, which will be repeated to-night for the last time, At The Strand, Magnetic Madge Kennedy appears at last in a real out-and-out drama, It is "The Service Star, and, as its title indicates, is of extreme timeli- ness, appealing as it does to every owner of a service flag. Marilyn March, a girl of extreme plainness, yearns for a soldier or sailor sweet- heart such as every other girl has. Ire desperation she announces that she is the wife of a soldier whose heroi- sm is proclaimed in all the' newspap- ers, At once the young man's mother seeks her out and in terror Marilyn faces her, sure that she will be ex- posed as an impostor. But the mother takes the girl to her heart--and her home, Marilyn's story is accepted without a question and she is trans- formed from an unprepossessing girl to a lovely young matron. Marilyn's mental suffering is agonizing when news comes of her supposed hus. band's death, and later arrangements are made to 'make her his heiress, This is more than Marilyn can stand To-Night Boys' Underwear 20 dozen boys' Scotch knit wool under- wear. Maril- yn has met him by accident and by chance she makes a discovery whic arouses her suspicion. In a flash it comes to her that the young man in reality is the son whose wife she is pretending to be and who is evading the draft. Furiously she taxes the mother with what she suspects and the elder woman breaks down, con-, fessing everything. At Griffin's, Many patrons of high class photo- plays assembled at this popular play- house .last evening and thoroughly enjoyed the entertaining programme' exhibited. J. Stuart Blackton's su-| perb feature, "Wild Youth." adapted from the story by Sir Gilbert Parker, proved in every way up to the high standard set by this great producer. It contains all the accessories requir- ed in the making of a super-photo-. play, including one of the greatest all-star casts ever assembled in one production. The foremost players are Louise Huff, James Cruze and Theodore Roberts, This picture is one of the theatrical treats of the sea- son . Another charming feature is dainty Marguerite Fischer in "A Square Deal,' "which gives this beau- tiful star an opportunity for her best' work and proved immensely popular with 'the audience, The final chap- ter of "The Eagle's Eye" winds up a very fine bill and this episode is sure to please and satisfy all who are in- terested in this story. To-night will be the last opportunity to see these noteworthy productions, Don't over- look it. LATE SOCIAL NEWS. 08. Mr. and Mrs, A. R.
