The church of God is the most | important institution in civilization. It exceeds in value, post offices railroads, banks, factories or any other product of modern commerce. It gives a walue to property. it lowers taxes, it exalts ideals. It creates an atmosphere that makes for manhood and citizenship. Gladstone said, 'I would rather have one minister of the gospel than {ten police emen for safeguarding any community.' John A. Macdonald [said, "The world owes more for its | civilization to ministers of the g0s- pel than to ministers of the crown.' [A judge in New York said, "I have | been five years 'on the bench. The real helpers can be counted often on the fingers of our two hands. There {is the help need for the choir by those entrusted with the talen of music, In the Sabbath school by {those who can teach. In prayer and service for evangelization. In mak- |ing the church a centre of social, {intellectual and spiritual activity such ws will produce a community {safe for democracy. In giving of our wealth for its adequate support and the propagation of the Gospel to all the world. These are the ob- ligation of every man. Added to mutual help is mutual encouragement. The toilers grow discouraged. It calls for all the cheer and optimism of which we are 'capable, Some may not be able {to help much, but all can speak the 'glad word. Smith. t An old enemy is with us again, and whether we fight a German or a germ, we must put up a good fight, and not be afraid The influenza runs a very brief course when the pa- tient is careful, and if we keep the system in good condition and throw off the poisons which tend to accum- ulate within our bodies, we can ékcape the disease Remember these {three C's--a clean mouth, a clean skin, and clean bowels. To carry off | poisons from the system and keep [the bowels loose, daily doses of a i pleasant laxative should be taken. Such-a one is made of May-apple, {leaves of aloe, root of jalap, and call- ed Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets. Hot lemonade should be used freely if at- tacked by a cold, and the patient should be put to bed after a hot mus- tard footbath. To prevent the attack of bron- chitis or pneumonia and to control the pain, Anmric tablets should be obtained at the drug store; and one given every two hours, with lemon- ade. The Anpuric tablets were first discovered by Dr. Pierce, and, as they flush the bladder and cleanse the kidneys, they carry away much of the poisons and the uric acid. It is important that broths, milk, buttermilk, ice-cream and simple diet be given regularly to strengthen the system and increase-the vital re- sistance. The fever is diminished by the use of the Anuric tablets, but in addition, the forehead, arms and hands may be bathed with water (te- pid) in which a tablespoonful of sal- aratus has been dissolved in a quart. After an attack of grip or pneumo- nia to build up and strengthen the system, obtain at the drug store a good iron tonic, called "Irontie" Tab- lets, or that well known herbal tonic Dr. Pierce's Golden Me dical Discove ry Ay POSTIONS WERE. During the last month the Soldiers' Aid Commission found positions for eighty-five soldiers in this military district, under satisfactory conditions at a good living wage. The super- intendent of the branch seeks more co-operation from the employers re- porting hack to the commission about the men they take on their staffs. As an example, it is stated that only thirty-two reports were received of the men placed last month, although forty-five others went to good posi- tions .
