Pu interest ristinas Tree children is growing. Sub- ions are being received more freely, and everything points to the success of the scheme, Suggestions as to the handling of the Christmas also in regard to the rafs-| ing of the necessary $1,000 are be-! ing received from all sides, and the! Whig greatly appreciates the great interest taken able > people of Kingston to show their gratitude for the winning of | the war, to show the true Christmas feeeling. that it is better to give than to receive, and to bring glad- ness and joy into the hearts of the little children whose fathers have kept our Dominion inviolate during the four years of war. One suggestion in connection with the raising of the money is that factories, stores and business of- fices which pmploy a number of people should take a collection amongst their employees, ably organized by the employees | themselves, and in this way raise a| subscription for the fund. If every establishment, both civilian and military in the city adopted this plan, and each person subscribed on- ly a small sum, the money would be raised in a few days This is a splendid idea, and the Whig takes great pleasure in hand- ing it on to the citizens in the hope that it will bring largely increased numbers of subscriptions Another suggestion is that person subscribing to the be allowed to nominate child for the Christmas tree for each dol- lar of their subscription, necessary condition that such child- ren be the children of soldiers over- seas or returned men in hospital or on duty in Canada, or the children of soldiers who have made the su- preme the front every one crifice at This suggestion will be passed on | committee of ladies who will | charge of the arrangements names of these ladies will published as soon as they are finitely chosen, but the public can rest assured that the committee 'will be the strongest committee of ladies that has ever been formed in Kings ton . Fhe Whig will be very glad to have any other ideas in regard to the entertainment or the raising of | the fund, and any ideas which our readers have to offer should be sent in addressed "Christmas Tree Fund, Whig Office." As will be seen by the list of sub- scriptions on page 1, growing, but with just a little over | two weeks to go before the Christ- mas season, there will have to he a speeding-up of donations. As it is impossible for the Whig to canvass for subscriptions, the call is sent out for every Kingstonian to do his or her share in making this Christmas a happy one for the soldiers' kiddies by sending in their subscriptions as soon as possible. And let the subscriptions be as generous as possible. There could not be a more worthy object. Get your name in that list on the front. pagé, and you will go ahead with your own Christmas festivities with a greater joy in your heart than you would otherwise experi. ence. = COCL MNNUAL MEETING 'is HELD AT KINGSTON RINK SATURDAY AFTERNOON.
