Toronto has still"fin eye on a ma- jor league' franchise in the baseball world. Either of the big leagues would be glad to include Toronto on the cireuit, the chief problem being the securing of the consent of one of thé present clubs td sell out, as the Toronto owners would not consider the transfer of outside interests to control baseball in that city. B, writes in the Ottawa Journal as follows: 'Few sport fol- lowers may know that Saskatoon is the present home of a man who has had years of connection with the cleanest body of sportsmen in Can- ada, the Intercollegiate Athletic Union. The Intercollegiate has had its ups and downs, it is true, but there has never been any profession- alism connected with the good name of the IntercoMegiate Union. No other league can boast of this re- cord. Getting back to the subject of our sketch, Professor Swanson, professor of economics at the Uni- versity of Saskatchewan, was for several years very closely connected with the Queen's Athletic fa tion, particularly with the § team, which held its own for years against the much larger (in the number of students) universities of the east, McGill and Toronto. He was a warm personal friend of two of Queen's greatest athletes, the late Mdrty Walsh and Lieut. Ken Williams, who gave his life that sport might be perpetuated. Pro- fessor Swanson is of the firm belief that the big Western Canadian uni- versities, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, will in the near future be on the same basis for inteircoi- legiate athletic competition as are their older sisters in the east." Would Amateurize Overseas Pros, The Board of Governors of the Manitoba Branch Amateur Athletic Union of Canada at a meeting in Winnipeg passed a strong resolu- tion on the subjeet of reinstatement for returned soldiers who have seen service overseas, Following is the resolution: "That the secrétary give notice to the AAU. of Canada that a motion will be introduced at the fortheom- ing annual meeting to amend the constitution so that all returned soldiers who have served in the Canadian, Imperial or Allied forces in the war who make personal ap- plication' for reinstatement to ama- teur standing and declare the in- tention of thereafter remaining amateurs he granted amateur cards, 'Also that all the branches of the AAU. of ©. be ecircularized by this branch with a view to having them submit similar motions at the an- nual meetitg of the union and sup- porting same at the meeting." Collingwood, who won the iuter- mediate title last season, have applied for admittanee to the O.H.A. senior series, Their request will likely be granted, and a dye given to them. The club will also enter intermediate] and junior sextettes. A | C3] .. 2) § 1. ORPHANED "So your wife has taken up golf, too?" "Yes, our children are now golf orphans." The Braves and | Phillieswill train in Florida, also the Mackmen, so there promises to be | plenty of pre-season activity of the {inter league variety in that state. \ | The Inter<Lake Yachting Associa- tion will hold its annual regatta at Put-in-Bay next summer, The man who bows to the inevit- able seldom does it as a matter of courtesy, Many a man who claims to be sell made is really father-in-law made.
