DR. WILSON. AND REV. DR. MORGAN PREACHED, i. Dr. Macgillivray Occupied His Former Pulpit in Chalmers Sun- | day Morning--Musical Service In Cooke's, The anniversary services of ¢hurch were held on Sunday, and were of special interest because of the fact that the pastor, Rev. J. D, Boyd is to retire shortly after being in that chureh fo: twenty-nine years, and haying been responsible for its establishment, Rev. R. J.' Wilson, D.D., preached at the morning ser- the words, "Stand Steadlast, and ye shall win your souls." He pointed out that in order to win their bodies and their minds, men' have to make great efforts, and that souls can only bé won by the same methods. He ii- lustrated his sermon by stories sof the war, and said that the only reii- gion worth having was that which could only be attained by constant Ls dnd strenuous effort. Rev. Dr. William Morgan, at the evening service, preached an inspir- ing sermon to a large congrggation. He said that the highest stahdpoint which a man could have ik life is not what he can get out of anything, but what he can put into it; not what he can get others to dg for him, but He out that the important thing was not how much one can get out of the church, but how much one can put into it. Before the wayr.people in this country and people coming to this country used to consider only what Canada codd do for them, but { the war changed that, and made them | consider what they could do for Can- {ada." The greatest example of this was the life of Christ, who came not to be ministered unto but to minist- ter, and to give his life as a ransom for many, Dr. Macgillivray Preaches. "Your old minister finds it good to said ivray, who occupied afmers church on Sunday morning. Dr. Macgillivray preached a beautifully phrased and impressive sermon from the text, "Lord thou hast been our dwelling Rev. Dr. Macgil : place in all generations." Musical Service In Ogoke's. An exceptionally large congrega- fon attended Cooke's church en Sunday evening, when a special musical service wag held. The choir sang the anthems, "The Radiant Morn" (Woodwfird), and "Holy Father, Cheer "our Way," =(Bert Couper), son of Ald. Daniel Couper, of Kingston, Mrs. J. C..R. Mac- Pherson rendered as a solo "My Goa and Father, while I Stray" (Nevin), and Lieut. A. G. M. Strowger. sang 'Nearer, My God to Thee" (Carey), both of which were sung in splendid voice. Rev. W. Taylo Dale, preach- ing on "The Privileges. of Priest- hood," made a strong attack on the formalism which is prevalént in the avo PROPERTY COMMITTEE Asked to Provide for Renovation of the Police Station. At last, somethingiis to be done to the police station. For seme time it has been in need of attention.
