Orient through which was woven a delightful story of (the Arabian! Niguts was prescited last night at! the Grand When the 1919 extravy-! ganza, "Ali Baba and the Forty| Thieves," was given its first show- ing here. The story is familiar % all, but it was the stupendous pro- duction together with the remark- ably clever characierizations that made this phiotoplay one so 'well worth seeing. Those who were for- tunate in seeing the last William Fox masterpiec 'Jack and the Beanstalk," will find that "Ali Baba' outdoes even the splendor and inter- est of that successful wondenplay. Not only was this film on the pro- gramme but there were also many ther smaller reels that deserve special mention. Several two reel dramas and a, news weekly gave en- tire satisfaction and also comedies that were great. Chief among thes¢ was the Mutt and Jeff carton com- edy and one of the kind that has never before been $én here. This bill will be shown again for the Tast time this evening.--Advt. "The Rosary," On W ednesday. All theatre goers are familiar with "The Rosary," a play as distinet in ipa and as wholesomely appealing "Shores Acres." This play, which will come to the Grand Opera House on Wednesday matinee and night, April 23rd teils the unassuming, but vitally interesting story of how a watohful priest ultimately restored the happiness of a home that had been wrecked by the evil plotting of one who coveted his neighbor's wife. The. plotter sought revenge because is rival had won the love of ° the woman, to whom he had paid suit in the days when she was free to choose betfveen. them, The story moves on with great forced, and shows that suspicion, whic h._ increased: to whit seems certainty, may wreck in- nocent lives. It is a story that every married man and woman should see, for it teaches a powerful lesson and brings home Meh needed truths.-- Adve, " At The Strand, The programme offered at the Strand Theatre to-night and on Wed- nesday is one of surpassing excel- lence. The feature picture is a thril- ling spy play entitled "The Road Through the Dark," in which Clara Kimball Young plays the leading part. The story deals with Gabrielle Jar- dee, a French girl who becomes the mistress of a German prince and be a spy.for France. 'Gabrielle a in love with Jghn Morgan, an American, but her ftw wishes her to marry a Frenchnfin, and sends her away from Paris to an aunt in the {counters in order to break up the af- fair. The war comes, and the vil- lage is invaded by the Germans. Ga- brielle's relatives are all shot by the ie) Huns, and she is offered shelter in the IY orsorial quarers of the commandant, Prince Karl of Stréilitz. Phince Karl tells her that if she. will give herself to him he will save the town from the rioters. To save her coun- trymen.and women, she becomes the French mistress of the German prince and is scorned by-the villagers, whom she has killed her soul to save. In time Karl is transferred to the Ins teligence Department in Berlin. He takes Gabrielle with him, at her re- quest, One night he gives a formal banguet. Gabrielle excuses herself os his room, taking away ateégic papers. Karl learns struggle she kills him. She escapes to France, where she gives valuable information to the Alljéd council which is meeting there. andl where she is reunfted with her American lover.
