Concerning the OT.A.,, I do not write 10 uphold or defeill 'the drunkard in any way, but I never 141 any use for the temperance so0- ciety. From a spiritual point of view, they would be bett:r employ- ed if they only won one soul for Cod, buy then there wouid not be enough money in that for them. space would not permit me Lo give all ¢f my opinion on the sabjaet, but from their own argument 1 should judge they obtaly, money by false pretence, because they justify their cause by saying that they de- fend and help clothe and feed the wi'e and children of the man who spends his wages for whiskey. I fail to find any such thing, but rather the contrary. First of all there are many other ways in whieh a man can spend his earnings, and, gecond, if a man thinks so little of his wife and family that he will spend his earnings for five bottles of whiskey he will spend just as much for one bottle, It's only what he earns anyway. What Joes he care? Besides, did any one ever hear tell of the temperance people buying food and elothes for the wife and children with the money they took from the husband and father? "I think not. I dont be- lieve that they ever thougat of such a thing. 1 know a case whure the 0.T.A. took over $400 from a man last summer, and his wife and children are in rags and barefooted still, and he still likes his whiskey just the same. x If we go back to Christ's time we find that there was drunkards then and that Christ himself associated with them and attended parties, and once, when they had run out of fermented spirits, He manufaclured some himself, and it was pronounc- ed the best at the feast. Just im- agine the like nowadays. He would hardly get off with a $200 fine, Times have changed, and thers has been some improvements in the manufacture of spirits, but Christ is supposed to be the same yesterday, to-day and forever. He is coming again, not as a lamb, but as a ruler this time. He will set up a king- dom, and all nations shall serve Him, and there shall be no more war for a thousand years and a lit- tle season, which fay be another thousand years f all we know. I 'believe that the temperance people will not receive very much benefit beyond what money they make here now, which is certainly no small amount, which I believe is their whole object from all ac counts. I believe that as Germans has filled Europe with Bolsheviki so has the O.T.A. "filled America with moenshiners, bootleggers, etc. and have started a wave of crime that will cost more to control than tfley have made. But will they foot the bill? 1 think not. Couneerning the tariff, I believe that it takes just so much to run. g NO CONSTIPATION NO PILES. We think, without a doubt, that constipation is the most prevalent, and at the same time, one of the greatest troubles human nature is af- flicted with, and causes more sick- ness than anything else. Unless a free action of the bowels occurs at least once a day, constipa- tion is sure to ensue, then comes the sore and uncomfortable piles, sick and bilious headaches, coat- obnoxious breath, sour heartburn, water brash, stomach, if land many other ailments. Milburn's Laxa-Liver Pills will regulate the flow of bile to act pro- perly on the bowels, thus removing the constipation and its allied troubles. Mr. Dan Doucette, Eel River Crossing, N.B. writes:--" Having been trowbled for years with consti- pation and trying everything I knew of, a friend advised me to use Mil- burn's Laxa-Liver Pills. I used four vials and am completely cured. I can gladly: recommend them to anyone who sulfers from constipation." Milburn's Laxa-Liver Pills have been on the market for the past 26 f|years, and have been used with the best resuits by thousands of people | in thgt time, and we have yet to hear of a powers, Price 26¢ a vial at all dealers, or mailed direct on receipt of price by The T. Milburn Co., Limited, Toron- mplaint as to their curative §|to, Ont. ba country or kingdom, and the people have to pay the bill, 1 believe that every one of accountability who en- joys the 'benefits, the privileges, ithe 'blessings of a country and a home should help to bear the bur-| dens and expense of the same, not by any cunningly devised, crafty or nnderhanded means, but by a dl- rect taxation. If the government would appeal openly to the people the business of the country, is not a man or woman who would They say. that the customs tariff last year was one hundred and six- teen million dollars. Now, If we bought as much from the home manufacturer 8s we imported, and we certainly do, and more we are paying two hundred and thirty-twe miilion dollars more than the actual price--one hundred and sixteen to the customs and another one hun- dred and sixteen miMions to the manufacturer. That is why they put up such a strong plea for pro- tection. ~W. D. SHAW, AT THE GRAND. "Parlor, Bedroom and Bath," Pres. ented Last Night. "Parior, Bedroom and Bath," farce comedy presented by A. Woods, was the attraction at Grand last night. The play centres around the adventures of a husband, who in his endeavor please his romantic wife, has to go through a "frame-up"~elopment, and gets himself into such a tangle that it takes some "fixing" to get him out of it, There are three acts, while it is very amusing in spots, there is meed for the pruning knife there and there. It is hard to con- ceive of a woman wanting her hus- band to be mixed up in scandals, and to have them written up in "Town Tattler." As the husband and wife Anglica Irving and Regin- ald Irving, Norms Moore asd Walier E. Perkins filed théir parts Reginald was a "scream" at times, but worthy of special mention was the role of Polly Hathway, tak- en by Flavia Arearo, The latter had a yoll of slang that would from Kingston to Napanee and turn, and got it off to good advan- tage, but there was much of it over: drawn. The supporting company wis gooddput the play is not of the kind th leaves a good flavor, and makes o feel that all the acting has been worth while, "Mutt and Jeft," Coming. Mutt and Jeff, the Bud Fisher creatures, performing daily in newspapers, will be seen in flesh at the Grand on Monday, May 12th, matinee and night, where Gus Hill's Mutt and Jeff in the Wooly West will be presented: The mismuat- ed pair this year are embroiled many difficulties through a scheming lawyer, who tries to marry Jeff off to an ancient creature, when heart is set elsewhere. A mine und a will enter into the story, the roles of Mutt and Jeff will be played by Richard #reeman Jerry Sullivan, Mr. Hill has rounded these eminent artists with an exceptional high ray of musical talent, and a beauty chorus of youug and attractive girls.--Advt, Boston English Opera Company, Manager Branigan of the Grand Opera House announces an usual festival of opera this city.
