Seldom has an event been watched with such keen inter- est in Kingston and the wishes of Kingstonians followed the young Australian in his flight. "We don't want them there Yam- kees to put it over us," remarked one man "or they'll crow for the next generation." The telephone rang incessantly 1354 a special service to answer ques- fons regarding the flight was kept up until after ten o'clock. A flash report 'was received by the Whig just at press time on Monday that Haws ker had safely arrived, but it after- wards proved to be unfounded. The report wad also received at the Par- Hament buildings in Ottawa, accord- ing to an annunocement made by the acting prime minister, Sir Thomas White, and he dispatched a letter of congratulation to Mr. Hawker and his pilot, There was great disappointment when it was announced that Hawker had been forced to descend. The late despatch said that Hawker had been forced to land in the sea and one gentleman asked the Whig the poser of the day, "How could Hawker land in the sea? 'He could land on the land or sed in the sea, but I don't see how he could land in the sea." The answer will have to be left to ex- perts in' the English language. When it was announced on Tues- dayday morning that Hawker was missing and that the sea was being searched for him, there was great regret éxpressed. Kingston sympa- thies were with Hawker and everyone 'hoped that he would be found. It was said that considerable mon- ey was put up on the flight and the odds were in favor of a successful landing by Hawker. FCA. ANNUAL - NEETING WAS HELD AT HEADQUARTERS ON MONDAY EVENING.
