A splendid reception, banquet and band concert was given to 258 re turned soliNdrs, their wives, children and sweelhearts by the Salvation Army on Wednesday evening. It was a most enjoyable affair. It was planned and carried out upon the in- itiative of Adjutant Smith who was in 'charge. Supper was served at 7 o'clock in the spacious room at the rear of the hall and the concert Look place: in the main hall afterward. Major W. J. McManus of the head- quarters staff, acted as chairman, and Bandmaster 'W, J. Christmas, who re- cently returned wivh the 2nd Bat- | tation, was in charge of the band which included several old members who served overseas, The chairman opened the pro gramme with an address, in which he expressed is pleasure over being privileged to be present, and he com- plimented Adjutant Smith and the Army for the devotion shown at all times toward the soidiers. The ad- jntant was always on hand with the band, night and day, to give the re- turning men @ fitting welcome, and his keen thoughtfuliiess was greatly appoeciated. The present occasion was a spontaneous expression of re- gard which showed that the Salvation Army occupied a high place in the community ghat no other = organiza- tion 'could approach.
