A meeting 'of the executive com- mittee of the Metal Trades Federa- tion took place Friday to consider the communication from the civic mediation committee. The com- mittee asked the metal workers to state the points in dispute with the Locomotive Company and also whether {Hey were Willing to meet the comm\itee to negotiate a settle- ment. A reply was drawn up stat- ing that an increase in wages was asked for and the establishment of the eight-hour day, also that the workers were quite willing.to meet the committee 'along with the com- pany's represéntatives to negotiate a settlement of the strike. This reply was gent to the ecivie committee. A SETTLEMENT MADE Of Flooded Land Claims at Tam- worth on Thursday. J. B, Walkem, + K.C., master-in- chancery, held a sitting at Tam- worth on Thursday afternoon to hear claims entered by owners of land flooded by reason of the con- struction of a dam by the Kuitting Mill Company of that place about & year ago, The claims entered total- led $1,850, and after evidence had been heard, the total damage was adjudicated by Nr. Walkem ai $510, and a satisfactory. settlement was made. Messrs, Madden, of Napanee, and A. B. Cunningham re presented the parties interested in the award, "THE RIDEAU."
