That is the subject of this delightful song of sentiment which John MeCormack sings With amazing charm. His voice is never so sweet as when it is love's messenger, and though you may guess something of the nature of the message of the rose, you will hear the record many times before you measure the depth of sincerity and heart- yearning which the great Irish tenor contrives to put into the simple waltz refrain of this fascinating song which, sung first in 'The Better Ole," has so rapidly grown popular. The refrain is repeated, as if to give emphasis, and to the melody of Mc- Cormack's voice is added the enchanting strains of a violin ob- ligato. This City Maintains Xta Position As Second In the Dominion forthe Results Obtained for the Rethgned Soldiers, The weekly report of tas Informa tion and Service Branch of the De- partment of Soldiers' Civil Re- establishment is very nteresus readifig. It gives a resume of condi- tions In the labor world = all over the dominion, sng tells of the great work that is being done by that de- psrtment in piaviog réturned sol- diers in employment. The report states that while the Winnipeg strike is now over, it is still too early f its influence to be felt elsewhere. Labor conditions are improving, aud several new flelds of, employment are being opened up to Canadian soldiers. For lpstance, it is re- ported that the Canada Steamsaip Lines, instead of engaging tueir lielp in the United States thiougn a Mon- treal employment agency, aave 0b- tained thelr supply this summer through the Canadian government employment officés, and are employ- ing returned soldiers wherever pos- sible. A feature of this week's report is the special mention given to the se- curing of employment for a disabled soldier with only two flugers on his right hand, by W. G. Bailey, the Kingston unit demobilization oTcer. From London, Ont., comes the re- port that employment was found for two cripples, one minus a leg and an arm, and the other minus an arm. Both of them were placed in good positions in a factory in Kitchener. The figures for the Kingston office | show that the employment situation is still very satisfactory. During the week 123 'men applied to A. Tug- wood, the local labor representative, for positions. AM of these, with eleven others whose applications were left over from last week, were referred to vacancies, and 122 of them were placed in suitable situa- tions. This shows a percentage of 99.2 for the Kingston office. King- ston thus maintains its position as the second district in the dominion for the results obtained, the Thund- er Bay district being first with a percentage of 116.6. Kingston is now the headquarters for south eastern Ontario information and ser- vice branches, The report also shows that since ithe signing of the armistice, 207,981 soldiers of all ranks have been re- turned to Canada, of which number 5,472 returned last week. The fig- ures for Kingston show that 577 sol- diers returned to the local dispersal station last week, and that 9,253 have returned to this district since the beginning of demobilization. The only complete unit still to return to the city is No. 7 (Queen's) General Hospital, IN MARINE OIROCLES. Movements of Vessels In and About Kingston Harbor.
