The market on Saturday morning was a very busy one, large supplies nd to cope with the de- mands of the crowds of purchasers. Prices were a little lower than in previous wéeks, although fresh vege. tables were very plentirul. In the inner market butter sold at 60c a while eggs went at 50c and 55¢ per dpzen. Fowls and ghickens were ino plentiful. The former sold at $1.50 to $2 sach, while the chickens rangéd from 76¢c to $1.25. In the meat section, the supply was short. Véal sold at 20c a pound for forequarters, 26c a pound for] hinds. Mutton/was Ligh at 30c to | 36c a pound, ahd lamb reached the top-notch prices of 36c a pound for roma and 40¢ a pound for hindguar- The biggest business was done in the vegetable section, where every wagon was well loaded with supplies of fresh vegetables. The first toma- TUBS Of the season BOIA Wt WpPrOXIT mately 13¢ a pound, while the first cobs of corr went at 35¢c and 40c a dozén. - Onions, radishes and lettuce sold at 5¢ a bunch, rhubarb at 8c a buch or two bunches for 15c, and Safran and beets sold at 10¢ a bunch. Cabbages were from 1l8c to 20¢ edch, afd cucumbers 10c and 16c¢. Beans and peas saw a drop in price, beans being 5¢ a quart and peas 12%¢. New potatoes were plentiful and sold at 60¢c a peck. In the fruit section, early apples made their appearance and sold at $1 a peck. Raspberries were 25c to 85¢ a box, black currants were 3bc, and gooseberries sold at 25c a quart, The raspberries were of poor quality, so that thé price was high.
