The Public Utilities Commission had a busy day on Monday afternoon when tenders were opened and #e- cepted for improvements to the gas plant, including a new building, in- yolving an expenditure of $70,000. Chairmen R. ¥, Ellott presided, and the other members present were T. J. Rigney, Mayor Newman and Thos. Hewitt. After the routine business, includ- ing the passing of the audited ae- counts, Manager C. C. Folger report- ed on & number of matters. 'At a re- cent test of the pump the water pressure was found to be most sat- isfactory. The Local Improvement Act, came up in connection with the permanent pavements and the Com- mission decided to appoint the chair man and manager a sub-committee to make the necessary arrangements with the city council for reimburge- ment for placing the services into vacant lots as the power to assess such lots rested with the Council. Beven tenders were receivea for the erection of the new gas building. They were as follows: No. 1, $11,- 885; No. 2, $11,189; No. 3, $18.- 747. 58; No. 4, $10,975; No. 5, $13,- #95; No. 6, $7. 582, for doing mason work; No. 7, $650, for painting and glasing. William Newlands, archi- tect, was present for consultation, and tender No. 1 was accepted and award8d to R. Wallace & Sons, King- ston. 'The architect's estimate was $12,000. Tenders for three ' steel trusses to be used in the building were received from The Sarnia Bridge Company, $630, delivered but not erected; Toronto Steel Construction Co., $1,000 delivered and erected; Standard Steel Construction Co., Port Robindon, $812, f.0.b. Kingston, and $175 for erection; Dominion Bridge Co., $1,171. Davis & Farnham, Waltham, Mass., were awarded the contract for gas purifier pets at $26,000. The other tenders were Steacy Mtg. Co., of Cin- cinnati, $32,750; erected, but $19.- 000 t.0.b. Kingston; Isobel Porter Co., Newark, N.J., $34,800; Gas Ma- chinery Co., Cleveland $47,500. The Heconomical Gas Construction Cp., Toronto, were awarded the con: tract for carburetted water gas sets at $14,622.
