This picture is one of heart inte est, and Miss Pearson is seen in the difficult role of a hypnotic vie- tim of a man of powerful will. Gloria Joy, the thful star of fimdom, was seen a five heel feature film, "No Children Wanted," a story of intrigue and love that terminates happily. Other films shown were a Mutt and Jeff cartoon, "The Ace and Joker," an industrial reel -showin the salmon industry, and a one comedy, "Her Lady's Slipper." The vaudeville, Madelaine Shone appear- ed in & act combining singing and comedy talk, and drew much worthy applause for her clever wit. For the second day in' succession there was no session of police court on Tuesday . The annual tennis tournament at the Thousand Island Yacht Club are being played at the yacht club court this week. s 5 Rev, D. A. Lough, Minister of Brock Street Methodist Church, and family, have returned to the 'city af- ter their holiday at Sydenham, The dinner dances at the Thous- and Islands Yacht Club. are proving more popular this summer than at any period within the last five years. The funeral of William Cannem whose death was caused by the accl- dental discharge of a rifle on Sun- day, took place to Cataraqui ceme- tery on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Dr. Wilson, of Chalmers' Presbyterian church officiated. Miss Knox of the Bureau of Child Welfare, Toronto, is in the city mak- ing arrangement for a health exhibit by the local council of women at the coming Kingston Industrial Fair. Miss Know is the guest of Mrs. John Macgillivray. "In Flanders Field," the classic of Col. M¢Crae, is set to music by Herb- ert Myles and Marjorie Trotter, Port- land, Oregon, and is a highly credit- able composition. Mr, Myles is a Canadian, born at Burfort, Ont. Considerable interest is being shown in the gold challenge cup races which ard scheduled to start at Alexandria Bay on Wednesday, continuing for three days. The con- tests are expected to bring together some of the fastest craft on the St. Lawrence river. Rev. Dr. Wilson spoke eloquently and comforting regarding the late Lieut.-Col. Her husband and a half years id a : yl MEE hE A meeting of the officers of the 14th Reg't. P.W.O.R. was called at the armouries on Monday evening but out of respect to the memory of the late Lt.-Col. W. H. Macnee, who Was for more than twenty years an active member, the meeting adjourn- €d after passing a resolution of con- dolence which the secretary was ¢i- rected to forward to the family of the deceased officer. The meeting will take place on Thursday evening. ' Major the Rev. Mr. Wilkin, late chaplain to the 8th brigade C.E.F., is in Kingston and is the guest of Brig-Gen. Williams. Major Wilkin was with the C.M.R. and was taken prisoner by the Germans. He r&urn. 2d to Canada about a week ago, On Monday the patients of the Mowat Sanitarium gavé an excursion on the steamer Brockville to the || Thousand Islands. There were nearly 200 people on the hoat, and a very good time was enjoyed. The Brock- ville took the Canadian passage down and everybody was very much taken ap by the beautiful islands. The band of the R.C.H.A. provided music. . Purchase a Store. The United Farmers of Frontenac County have purchased the proper~ ties on Brock street occupied by James MacFarlane and Mrs. Bucha- nan to be used as a store and ware- house in connection with the pur- chase and marketing of the goods. The price is stated to be $11,500. The purchase was negotiated by A. BE. Weller .and other members of the committee, W. F. Nickle For Leadership. An Ottawa despatch says: "Ru- mors are mow in circulation to the effect that a Conservative convention will shortly be held. Connected with the rumor is the further report that W. F.
