FOR INAUGURATING METHODIST | 3 FORWARD MOVEMENT } | Bew: G. L. Campbell and Rev. Dr, J. W. Graham Were the Speakers In Sydenham Methodist Church. { The inauguration of the great na- | i tional Forward Movement of the | { Methodist church in the Kingston | | District, took place on Wednesday | j evening in Sydemham street church | {at & meeting which was largely at- { tended by clergy and lay delegates | | from every part of the district. Tae | | rel service, which was conduct- | i ed by Rey. J. D. Ellis was most im-{ pressive and inspiring, a number of | | the lay members leading in prayer, | { imploring divine blessing upon the | | great undertaking to the success of | which the church calls for consec- rated effort on the part of all of its! members, i in his opening address, Mr. Ells | announced the object of the great | | movement which was delayed in On- | tario by the referendum. This is al great spiritual revival, already start- | ed and growing in momentum daily. | He declared it to be the biggest | movement the Methodist church had ever undertaken, and it included de- finite objectives in increased chureh | membership, the active employment | of the various branches, the Sunday ! schools, and missions. Rev. G. I. Campbell, general or-! ganizer, caid that the whole confer- ence and the missions were now or- ganized in Quebec, Waterloo, Stan- stead, Montreal, Brockville and King stan. The programme as adopted was fully explained. This called for 2.- { 326 intercessors, an increase of 1.- 163 new members, 42 life members i and $42,600. He explained the duties | 4 {of "key" men and "minute" men and the chain of responsibility | throughout the organization. The ob- Jectives were set for every church, | and the pastors were held primarily | responsible for efficiency, and the success of their respective duties in | connection with the undertaking. He { exhorted his hearers to get a 'proper | vision of the great task. This was | the most important thing. Revi Mr. | { Campbell concluded with an eloquent | appeal for consecrated effort on the! | part of every individual. { Rev. Dr J. W. Grabam was the { next speaker and he held the closest attention of his audience for more than an hour. He told of the begin- {| ning of the Forward Movement in | the United States several years ago: { of the Centemary Movement which raised $175,000,000, and of the In- | ter-church Movement for which cer- tain New York banks advanced 320.- 000,000. These movements were spi- | ritnal and werd born in prayer, the! i source of light and love. But prayer | | while producing a happy frame of {| mind was of little real value unless {it was associated with something | practical. It was therefore mecessary to put first things first, to invest in | | the deepest things.
