Shopping Has Been Done by Many This Year. 5 'Shop early! Shop early!" The words have grested us on the front page of the daily newspaper for seve- ral weeks. We have read long treatises on shopping early in the editorfal columns of every paper we have picked up for the past many days. We have bien commanded to shop early by posters in store win- dows and by stickers on our parcels, and the injunction has dropped out of most every little purchase 'from avery store. "Shop early!" So we did. About four weeks be- fore Christmas we got '"The Youmg Visiters" for our cousin in New York and oaly yesterday that cousin sent a long-due letter, in which was, "Oh, by the way, have you read "The Young Visitors'? It is a pure joy." .Now, it we had shopped late, we wouldn't be having to cudgel our brains about what to do with that superfluous book, One advantage of shopping at the last minute is that you have had ample opportunity to find out what everyone wants Santa Claus to bring them. This advantage, however, is almost invariably cancelled by the facet that other people haven't wait- ed, and that some early bird has carried off the worm you had had your eye on. So the safest way, on the whole, seems to be to take the time-worn advice and shop early, for after all, cases like, the cousin in New York are comparatively rare. : And not only 1s it the easiest time for the Christmes shopper, but also from the standpoint of the store clerk and delivery boy, it is the only time, if the shopper has any sense of humanity in his nipke-up. 'The Christmas season is a time of rejoicing and festivity. Jt has the sweetest memories. Around it are 'wined the prettiest legends and 1uaintest traditions of folk-lore and above all, there is its sacred signifi- cance, that makes it the most beaut!- ful day of the whole year. : And yet, it is this wonderful festival, which a great percentage of our working men and women look upon with dread and bitter ness, simply because of the thought- leasness of their followmen and wo- men, who shep to the very last minute* and make oven the jo hours of Eve--hours ea- cred to their q domestic rités-- make 0 bitter wean é them hours of change, thus obviating the necessity" your Christmas gifts here. We are showing a beautiful range of men's neckwear, suspenders, muffiers, sweater coats, silk shirts, umbrellas, otc. A visit will convince the most skeptical.
