THE- D TBAWLE 15 REPT VERY BUSY 3 ---- J INSTRUCTING THE VARIOUS | QUEEN'S HOCKEY TEAMS. | | Ottawa, Belleville and Trenton Want | Games -- The Kingston Junior | | Team Being Handled by "Jack" | i Powell, - = "1 Out-of-town hockey clubs evident- | {ly think that Queen's University has | { "some' hockey teams, as during the | | past few days "Nick" Bawlif has re-| i ceived no less than four requests for | | games. The Ottawa College team, | { which has been trimming everything | {in sight, and St. Patrick's of Ottawa, | who have an all-star team, have writ- ten "Nick," asking bim to arranges for games in Kingston. Queens other teams are also in demand, as both Belleville and Trenton want | university players to visit hon. The matter is under consideration, -and the management will either accept or rejectsthese challenges in the course of a few days. The great difficulty that the management is up against is that many of the good players will be out of the city for the Christmas holidays. s On Friday Coach Bawlf had a very busy time at the rink trying to in- struct the Queen's players in some of the fine points of the game. He went on the ice at four o'clock, and was with the different teams until eight o'clock. At Friday's practice, Walter Ellis was in uniform. On the two de- fences on Friday afternoon, Bawlf was trying out Ken Taylor in goal, Ferguson and Carroll on defence at one end, and Legault, Brownfield and Ellis at the other apd. He kept changing the forward men, The great tendency shown by many players is to try and score from the centre posi- tion, whereas Bawlf insists that they pass ont to the wings. During the Christmas vacation the coach intends to have the teams on the ice for two hours at least each day. ------ Queen's Ladies Have Hockey Team. Under the faithful training of "Nick" Bawlf, the young ladies of Queen's expect to have a real good hockey team this winter. This week L3numn ber of the girls turned out and showed the new coach that they knew a thing or two about the game, Al- though very few ofthe girls are good stick handlers, they are expert skat- ers, so their coach thinks that he can show them how to handle a stick. As soon as the girls return from ther | Christmas 'vacation they will get] down to steady practice, and in the courses of about two weeks they will be open to play out-of-town teams. Seem-- Kingston Juniors Practice. Commencing at eight o'clock, the Kingston junior hockey team prac- tised at the covered rink on Friday night. Senator Powell was on the ice, and showed the juniors some of the points of the game. Don Robin- son, who made such a fine showing with the Queen's juniors last winter, | is out with them. In the course of a couple of weeks of hard practice, the team will be in good shape for tno opening games. : | Queen's Girls at Basketball. Miss Clarke, ladies' physical di- | rector at Queen's University, is spend- ing considerable time training a lad- jes' basketball team, which will like- ly play some exciting games in the near tutupe.
