The game was of exceptional interest because each team had a well-known' south- paw in the box and the fans have leng been hoping to see a contest be- tween Goyer and Gallagher, Both hurlers threw a good game, with Go- yer leading in strike-outs, although he was hit more often than Galla- gher. Their work on Saturday was pretty evenly matched. Gallagher struck out ten, walked four ana suf- fered three hits as compared. with Goyer's twelve strike-outs, one walk, and five hits. Ted Saunders at short was the hero of the game. He made some sen- | sational pick-ups, stops and throws, | and walloped out a homer with Cherry on second base. Cherry, Coyne and Stewart, in the field, deserve credit for some good catches and Coyne was the author of a neat double play on a running catch and 2 fine throw to first. The Belleville team played ball all the way through, although there were one or two slips. Mills, catcher, was playing under the handicap of a badly hurt ankle, while Goyer had a pretty sore throwing hand to buck against. In the return game with Ponies they will likely give a better account of themselves and the locals will have to work to bring home a victory. The game opened with Gallagher allowing his first walk; but the next three went down fast, leaving the walker on second. Saunders started his sensational playing here when he down even faster than their oppon- ents in the first whacks. Gallagher struck out three men in the second. The second man up put a fast one to Spoor who threw wild to first before recovering from the pick-up. The three strike-outs left the runner at the second stop, Cherry opened the second clubbing for Ponies with a two-bagger along the third base line. Saunders follow- ed with a pretty homer into the park, scoring two runs. The next three went down without any fuss. The third inning looked dangerous when Gallagher walked two in suec- cession but Walsh nipped one off at second before the hit which followed REGIOPOLIS DEFEATS Y.I.O.B.A. Made Twelve Runs But the Score Stands 6-1. Before the game between Belle- ville and Ponies on Saturdy, Regio- polis and Young Irishmen met in a Junior City League game. Irishmen were not on the job and, as a result, the Regiopolis boys put it all over them. In the middle of the eighth the game was called to give the senior teams a chance to start. Regiopolis secured six runs in the first of the eight which made twelve runs for the whole game. However, as tha game reverts to the seventh inning the score stands Regiopolis 6, Irishmen, 1. This gamé ties the two teams and the next one will be watched with in- terest. Ponies Took the Game From Belleville, Saturday made a flying jump and got Walsh's |' | wild throw over second. Ponies went . 2 and the side went out without gain- ing much. In 'the first of the fourth Gallagher threw only four balls. Three of those were slammed at Saunders by the batters and he nab- bed every one like picking peaches and tossed them to first like into a basket. The ball simply could mot | pass him. . After the first of the third things were quiet in the batting line until the last of the fifth, when Coyne and Walsh came over with hairbreadth hits and scored Twigg who had beat- €n a slow throw to first. Ponies secured a hit in the sixth but that is all that came of'it. Belle ville came across with hits in the se- venth and again with another in the ninth but failed to score.
