THE WESTERN WOMEN KEEN IN POLITICS Their Presence at Meetings Regarded as Hopeful Sign of tha Times. En Route W' "1. Prime Minister, Nov. 19.--"It wiil not take long to annihilate the mass of misrepresen- tation that men with nothing better to do have been scattering abroad for years." This is the pithy im- pression of the prime minister as expressed at the conclusion of the western tour. He has spoken to well over one hundred thousand people at these meetings, and has been im- pressed with the obvious desire on the part of the electors to learn the facts regarding the government's policy as well as their wish to un- derstand what has been occurring in the last three years. In the big cities, like Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary and Regina, the audiences have been representative of* every class in the community, while in the smaller cities on the prairies and in the agricultural districts people have driven in scores of miles in order to listen to his addresses. To Calgary belongs the honor of pro- viding the largest audience. The attendans of the women voters at the meetings has been most marked, and the close interest with which they followed the arguments of the speakers is regarded by competent observers as one of the most hope- ful signs of the times. The fact that men prominent for years in Liberal and Uniouist circles have thrown in their lot with the National Party has had a great deal to do with the success of the tour, for they are men who have been looked upon as of the new thought TAKE CARE THAT COUGH Some people get a nasty cough and don't pay much attention to it, say- ing, "Oh, it will wear away in a short time," but while it may wear off, serious injury may have been jone to the lungs and respiratory or- gans by the prolonged, harsh, rack- ing coughing. On the first sign of a cough or cold get a bottle of Dr. Wood's Norway Pine Syrup. It will stop that nasty, troublesome cough, ease the tightyess across the chest, and loosen 'the phlegm. Mrs. Wm. Earnshaw, Apsley, Ont., writes: --"Last winter I caught a bad cold, had a sore throat and a terrible hacking cough that I could not get rid of. 1 could not sleep at night. I tried quite a few remedies, but they did not do me much good until 1 got Dr. Wood's Norway Pine'Syrup. By the time I had taken two bottles, my cough was all gone. I feel. that "Dr. Wood's has no equal." When you get Dr. Wood's Norway Pine Syrup, you are not experiment- ing with new and untried remedy, but one that has a reputation extend- ing over thirty years. SPP PEPFPCNPRPORR ERTS PROTESTS AGAINST ASSESSMENT ROLL Renfrew Ex-Mayor Claims it Shows Incompetency and is Unjust. (22 EE XXX 82 Sherr rtrd Renfrew, Nov, 19.4A protest aga- in€t the entire assessment roll, just completed, has been filed with Tow Clerk Devenny by Dr. N. McCormack, ex-Mayor: The doctor alleges that the assess- ment shows forth incomipetency and injustice, that real estate and build- ings have as often been assessed far above as below value. In the case of his own property, he charges that he has been assessed too high. The town employed a new assess- or, a returned soldier, this year, he being the only applicant, for the posi- tion. If his figures are too high in somie cases, the total assessed value of Renfrew has fallen away by seye- ral hundred thousand dollars. Some property has been overlooked entire- ly. Such a situation has never before arisen here, Lawyers say the action of the ex-| Mayor is legpl, and that the ratepay- ers can refuse to pay taxes until the entire matter is 'righted. The ex- Mayor offers to withdraw his protest if the Town Council will publish the assessment roll, if the assessor will appear before the Assessment Com- mittee and explain his work, or if the Council agrees to bring in an experi- enced outsider to adjust the assessed values next year. Town officials says the Assessment Committee, which acts as a Court of Revision, can right any discrepan- cies jn the situation. G.T.R. Weekly Earnings.
