Not since Ottawa | Rough Riders and Hamilton Tigers | played here for the Big Four cham- | pionship had such a scehe in the local athletic grounds been witnessed, With the permanent and temporary stands crowded to capacity the fleld presented an inspiring sight, while cheer after cheer filled the air. No sooner was the cheer given than Varsity came back with their cheer, with Queen's responding with its gaelec yell, o As early as one o'clock the crowds began filling the stands, and the ar- rival of parties of McGill or Varsity rooters was the signal for tremen- dous cheering. McGill rooters' club and! brass band Was much in evidence and livened up the wait before the game. It was easily the greatest gathering of fans even seen in Kingston, and the ath- letic grounds was fairly alive with activity all afternoon. At 2 o'clock Varsity appeared on the field and were given a tremendous ovation by Toronto rooters. They were follow- ed shortly by Shag's team. The field was in remarkable good shape, The cool northwest wind, which was blowing, together with the welcome sun, dried up the field con- siderably and the players had little complaint about the playing #fleld. Along the 'side lines, the ground had been somewhat wet, but loads of sawdust were dumped here and work- ed wonders with the ground. The lineup-- Varsity Position McGill Duncan...,.
