Furniture--Freight--Baggage TRANSFER Phone 1425W S. WHITEMAN 360 Bagot Street. The management of Kingston Col- leglate basketball team is trying to make arrangements for a couple of exhibition games. The team will go to Belleville on Friday, January 28th. It is expected that the man- agement of the Ottawa basketball team will be able to come to the city and play an exhibition game. The Ogdensburg team, which play- ed an exhibition game in Kingston about thr®e weeks ago, will likely be brought back for another game, ' Queen's ys. Frontenacs. One of the fastest hockey games of the month is staged for the cov- ered rink this evening, when Fron- tenacs and Queen's intermediates are matched. The Frontenac players are all tried out men, while it is not known who will figure on the Queen's line up. It is very likely that Frontenacs' forward line will be compose! "Joe" Smith, "Jimmie" Stewart and Brown. Last year Brown played on the defence. It is not known who will compose the de- fence, but it is certain that Toban will be in the nets. Queen's team will likely be about the same team as the one which played in Belle- ville this week. Team to Withdraw. At a meeting of the executive of the S.8.A.AA,; called for Saturday afternoon, the matter of) rearranging the senior schedule will be consider- ed. All the games in the first half of the schedule will be completed in a week's time, so the second half will have to be arranged. It is un- derstood that one of the teams, which played in 'the first half of the schedule, will ask permission to withdraw, as it finds difficulty in getting enough players together, ---- Juvenile H e. In the senior juvenile city hockey league game, played on Thursday evening, the team representing Regl- selstine's rink. , y Providing the ice is suitable, there will be a club bonspiel at the curling rink on Saturday afternoon and evening. Tankard Primary Wednesday. The first games in the tankard Jetary will be held at Napanee on ednesday next, providing there is ice. On January 21st. Brockville curlers will play in Napanee in the afternoon, in the C.0.C.L. games, and in Kingston the same evening. On Thirsday evening there were five sheets of ice in good shape at the curling rink. If the cold weather continues, it is hoped that ,all the quickly. Ladies' © opolic College defeated St. Patricks' by a score of 5 to 0. Only two peri- ods were played. At half time the score stood 3 to 0. The teapis competing in this league are experiencing a great deal of difficulty in getting ice to play the games. Object to League Ruling. "The City Hockey League rule, which prohibifs a player in that league from €ompeting in the O.H.A. games, does not tend to boost hockey," was the statement of ons of the representatives of the Fron- tenac Hockey" Club on Friday morn- ing. The members of the Frontenac Club beliéve that the city league was originally organized for training players for the senior league, stich as the O.H.A. series. Boys would curling. ! The members of the = Kingston x learn to play hockey in the city i Sat league, and then they could branch out into O.H.A. hockey. JAt the form the intermediate Frontenac hockey team, got their training in the city league. The Frontenac Hockey Club is willing to allow its players to take part in the city league games, and they do not see why the rule should not work both ways, eanna. Queen's Loses Good Player. It was learned on Friday morn- ing that Smith, the crack defence player, of Queen's intermediate hockey team, had definitely decided to retire from the game. His rea- sons for this action are that he feels that he cannot continue his studies and also compete ip the hockey. His retirement from the game means a great loss to Queen's, as he was one of the most promising athletes regis- tered at the university at the present time, that more encouragement should be given to the students who partici- pate in the intercollegiate sports. It is impossible for these students to put as much time on their studiss as other students who do net take any interest whatever in sports. PLACED UNDER HEAVY GUARD New York, Jan, 14.--Public buildings, churches, public atil- ity plants and homes of wealthy citizens here were under heavy guard to-day, by order of the police as a precautionary mea- sure against possible radical demonstrations. Officials were extremely reticent concerning the order, given verbally last night to the entire force, but they intimated it was prompted by federal authority. Raoul Peret Forming New French Ministry Paris, Jan. 14.--Raoul Peret, pre- sident of the chamber of deputies, was today asked by President Millgr- and to form -a cabinet in succession to the one headed by Georges Ley- gues, which resigned on Wednesday. M. Peret aécepted the task, and lm- wediately began consultations with kis friends over the formation of a ministry.
