Macdonald, president of | the Alberta branch of the Athletic | Union of Canda, statéd that so far as | Alberta amateurs were concerned, | the Alberta branch will give its sanc- tion to the playing of amateur foot- ballers against the touring Scottish eleven, First Inning. The game started off in rather loose fashion and things looked ather easy for Kiwanis. Tom. Mc- Ginnis, the Rotary twirler, was right on the job but had poor support. "Shorty" Dick, catcher for Kiwanis, started the music going with a three- bagger and scored when Geo. Van- Horne sent a hot one to M. 8. Grace and reached first before that t doughty third baseman recovered " himself. Percy Borland repeated the dose with Joe Stewart and things were looking pretty black for Rotary when their. pitcher took things in his own hands and registered the first man down when he fanned Noble Steacy. Reg. Crawford got away with a single which sent VanHorne and Bor- land over the plate. Crawford fol- lowed immediately afterwards be- cause of the home run pounded to the park by Ernie Ryan to make him- | self famous. Once again Tom Me- { Ginnis got sore and struck out Amby | Shea, Jim Sowards took a crack at {the ball and made first safely be- j||| cause Jack Phillips failed to con- and Ryan scored during the {Ircontusion. McGinnis decided to make ire complete job of it and struck out Harold Hughes, retiring the side by lis own efforts. When Sims, lead-off man for the Rotarians, took his place at the plate, he found himself facing no less a warrior than George VanHorne and the shock must have been .great for he succumbed to George's fancy curves. M. S. Grace did better and worked the Kiwanis' pitcher for a free passage. He was too ambitious, however, and was caught stealing second by "Shorty" Dick's nice throw. Herb. Steacy popped pne at Jim Sow- ards but Jim got his hands in a tangle and missed. Matt. Graham picked a nice single, scoring Steacy. Joe Stewart tried to put over a bunt but George VanHorne was too spry for him, Kiwanis 5, Barnet Refrigerator On Test Locked and sealed by Brigadier-General Ross at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 19th, and will be opened by him at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21st. They Tighten Up. Then the baseball started. Both teams settled down to work and tae playing became serious baseball and nol the joke some of the spectators had thought to see. In the three re- maining innings of the game no runs were scored and each pitcher allow- ed only one hit. The Steacy brothers were in the limelight for good play- ing, Noble for a double play on Phil- lips and Ward in the fourth, and Herb. for a pretty running catch on Ernie Ryan's fly in-the first half of the same inning. Bob Bushell made things more interesting by some fine coaching on the third base line. In the pitching, McGinnis allowed seven hits and achieved six strike- outs, while VanHorne allowed six hits and had four strike-outs. Mec- Ginnis walked one man and Van- Horne four. Those who saw this game between Rotarians and Kiwaniang are: now out yelling for more games in this series. This event certainly proved that there are a lot of ball-players among our Kingston business men and the fans are clamoring to see them in action again. The score was by no means any indication of yes- terday's game as the Rotarians, after the first five minutes were just. as good as their opponents, and both sides urse tiers and fast baseball. 5 6 Rotarians 1, ,Second Inning, In the second inning Kiwanis open- ed out their heavy battery again with a two-bagger contributed by "Shorty" Dick and another one by VanHorne. In spite of the fact that they were tired and hungry, however, they showed a good brand of baseball in the four and a half innings that were played. Today's game ought to be a dandy. It looked like cream for the visit- ors in the first inning when they started to pound Derry a little and {slipped in three runs and captured two nice hits, In their other four wallops, however, they succeeded in getting only one more hit from Derry and in the five rounds he struck out twelve of them. Three men got free passages' Ponies went in in the last of the first and showed that they could also handle the willow by sneaking a couple of hits and as many runs. In 'the third they secured five hits and five runs and one hit in the fourth. Wilfred, pitcher for the visitors, struck out four, allowed eight hits and walked one. The game was called 'in the middle of the fifth on account of darkness. The feature of the event was the first home run of the year, a beauti- ful wallop pounded right down cen- tre fleld in the third by Daly, The tem. omplexion quickly becomes rosy, spirits rise, strength increases daily.
