For the future, Mr. Nash will be connected with the Compo Company, manufacturers of Sun Records, Can- ada's first independent record press- ing plant, which was established two at Lachine, Que. whose resignation by H. 8. He will be succeeded in | the vice-presidency of kis late firm | by E. M. Berliner. | Following his resignatio», Mr. | Berliner was presented with a hand- | some testimonial of appreciation by the office, selling and factory staff, with which he was 86 intimately as- sociated for the past decade. This was in the shape of a 'magnificent suit case, equipped with sterling sil- ver fittings, monogrammed, and in- cluding a plate engraved as follows: Presented to Herbert §, Berliner The Manufacturing, Selling and Office Staff of the ; Berliner Gramophone Co, Ltd. as a mark of esteem upon his retire- mont as managing director. Kelly. The news of the resignation of these outstanding figures in the talking machine busi- ness of Canada came like a bomb- shell just before we went to press. Mr. Berliner's resignation, how- ever, does not mean the severance of his activities in. the record busi- ness of Canada. With th gentlemen above named associated with 'him, he will devote himself to the business of the Compo Company, manufactur- ers of Sun Records, at Lachine, P.Q., and the ramifications of that firm. This latter concern was establish- ed by Mr. Berliner in 1918 and is Canada's first independent record factory, where a number of the Unit- ed States companies have their Can- adian records made for them. Ths factory at Lachine, under the super- vision of J, McWilliams, is equipped right up to date with plating, pres- sing, testing, label printing, pack- ing and shipping departments, A re- cord materia] plant is being added, and in the way of plant and eqnip- ment there is not a more completely equipped record plant in the world, . H. 8. Berliner assumed active charge of the Berliner Gramophone Company, Limited, in 1810, and those who have followed the foctunes of this concern have seen it grow under his guidance from a. very small busi- ness to the great dominant 'alking machine business of Canada which it is today. A perfect kalzidoscope of victories in the manufacturing, sell- ing and legal field is presented hy the history of this compeny since Mr, Berliner first took it in hand. Booth and | the Golden Lake Lumber Company in | | the district north-west of Pembroke. | The Golden Lake Lumber Com- pany claims that Mr. Booth has tres- passed on its timber lease, and has cut its timber to the extent of a mil- | lion feet. Mr. Booth has replied that if such trespass did take place it was | during a time when the Golden Lake Lumber Company had failed to pay the ground rent levied by the govern- ment, and that, therefore, the land had reverted back to the erown, This | contention brings the attorney-gen- eral into the case. The trespass, if any, is said to have taken place in 1914, and it was some time after this that Senator O'Brien took over the Golden Lake Lumber Company. For some time previous to 1909 the Gol- den Lake Lumber Company's limits were the property of McLachlin Bros, Mr. Booth's limits front on the Petawawa river and those of the Golden Lake Lumber Company on the Bonnechere river. The licenses granting timber rights to these two companies stated that the south boundary of the limits owned by Mr. Booth and the north boundary of the Golden Lake Lumber Company's lim- its should be a line half-way between the two rivers. The court is now ask- ed to determine what is this boun- dary. The Golden Lake Lumber Com- pany claims that the wording of the license should be taken literally, and that the boundary should be an un- even line conforming to the twists and 'bends of both rivers. Mr. Booth claims that, according to the survey of 1844 and others since that date, NOTICE] Seasonabhle goods just received at the Unique Grocery-- ~--Welch's Grape Juice. --Sweet Heart Lemonade. ~--Orangeade. ~--Raspberryade. -~Gingerett.
