'Appearing Warm Is This Coat of Gray Charmeuse, Which Decides, However, to End in Streamers of Gray, re By... Mme. Frances The Famous Creator of Fashions 2 MONG the articles of women's dress that have more or less been consid- ered luxuries, the negliges is an important one. However, in these days, when most women are giving a little more thought to the spending of their money, a certain transforming process is apparent in the fashioning of this beautiful piece of apparel. The style of the negligee has changed greatly in recent seasons. No fabric is too magnificent for use.in its creation, and it is no longer relegated exclusively for wear- ing in the boudoir. ~The newest teagowns are modelled on such lines that they may be worn for tea or for informal dinners with one's intimate friends at the country home. Indeed, many of them are char- acterized by great sumptuousness. Personally I consider that the negligee allows rare freedom for the imaginative genius of anyone who delights in creating beautiful clothes. The most fascinating color combinations may be introduced, while the richest fabrics are none ' too good for the development of the robe d'interieure. Simplicity the Keynote 3 On this I illustrate four of my newest creations, which are full of sugges- tions for any woman who to make one of these garments for herself. Quite no! is the use of the cape or coat with these negligees. It is fashioned from flesh satin, which is cut in heart shape over the bosom. Below the waistline it is disposed in flaring folds that form a+eonven- ient resting place for its wearer's hands. These spreading pockets are out- lined with Val. lace. This also decorates the panta- lettes, which are further enriched with small inserts outlined with Val. lace. Val. lace defines the decolletage. Spreading gracefully about the shoulders is a cape of cream thread lace. This is unusually attrac- tive, because strips of plain alternate . with the pat. terned thread lace. A bind of green satin borders the cape and from beneath this point falls a dainty lace flounce. A silver galloon borders the cape where it encircles the neck. This disappears at the waistline beneath a cluster of flowers. Similar flowers, although somewhat smal- ler in size, adorn the head-dress that may be worn with this creation. These are posed on each side and long streamers of flesh-colored ribbon extend to the panels of pink chiffon bordered with silver gail- loon that partly conceal the bifurcated underdress. Another model is distinguished by ex- uisite trimming of flat gray flowers that Se themselves on the wide-flung, bloused cape of gray charmeuse. Stream- ers of the gray fall about the skirt, re- vealing the foundation of cream lace, which is enlivened with binds of coralsatin. Blue and pink flowers are set above the soft girdles of green and hyacinth satin that are draped about the waistline of the foundation. : The flowers on the cape are interest. ing. They are made of the charmeuse, but instead of the petals being tilted out in bouffant style they are exceptionally flat, so that the flowing lines of the cape are undisturbed by any unwished-for protuberance. Wonderful in col- or is the Chinese blue. chiffon -- negli- gee. The foundation of this beautiful creation is green charmeuse, which is cut away in the front to reveal a dainty vestee of flesh chiffon and Val. lace. From be- neath a girdle of blue satin appears jade green satin brocaded in gold. Tassels and beads make a most attrac- tive decoration for this gown. The back is perhaps the more ornate part. It is evolved from a large piece of the Chinese blue chif- fon. In the centre of this filmy fabric # panel of gold lace falls loose. It does not extend quite to the lower edge of the chiffon, for this is elaborated with a bind of satin. The low- er one is blue and matches the bind out- lining the panel. It is of generous width. ° A stripe of the chiffon is then appar- ent and it is surmounted by a narrower bind of jade green satin. Again the blue chiffon appears to be crested by lemon satin, which in turn is topped with blue chiffon, above which is stitched another narrow bind of the jade green. Part way up this magnificent cloak the blue chiffon is again enriched with binds, although they are fewer in number than at the hem. Then a little higher, this decoration, although in diminishing num- ver of hinds, is again repeated. The two pieces that form the fronts of this wrap are cut from the blue chiffon and outlined with binds of blue satin.' The front and back are attached by jade green beads that are placed at regular intervals, which leave decorative openings on shoul- ders and arms. Boudoir Cap Is Passe A handsome tassel punctuated by jade beads is chosen to hold the chiffon togeth- er so that an armhole is attained. A bead chain dangles down the centre front. One vivid spot. of color is seen-on-it, for one of the beads is wrapped tightly around with cerise silk, The fourth model is pictured with an- other of the new head-dresses that have taken the place of the boudoir cap. This latter, unfortunately, has sometimes won a rather unenviable reputation as the camouflager of untidy tresses. However, with the new style of head-dress it is im- perative that the coiffure be beautifully dressed. This particular model is made of a strip of lace flanked on either side by a piece of chiffon. These are shirred to- gether at the edge, so that the filmy chif- fon and lace become little more @®han a band that may be set across the head. At the points where these are gathered tiny clusters of fruit are attached, and from beneath these some coral, flesh and blue ribbons daintily dangle down. The negligee which accompanies this head-dress is developed from flesh char. meuse, which is interestingly swathed about the figure. Silver galloon forms a The Fashion Forecast All fabrics, from filmy chiffons and organdies to rich satins, are to be varnished to give a glossy look to lovely summer frocks. At one side a lovely touch of color is introduced, for drooping clusters of grapes in silver, gray, green, peach and orange caress the softly disposed fold of the satin. Sometimes they are com- bined with the blossom, which is most ef- fective. Orange buds, with their crisp, waxy white petals, look most alluring when united with the colorful orange and the formal green leaves. This use of bud and fruit is also re- sorted to on the summer hat, as the wide- brimmed invites the addition of many lovely posies.
