THURSDAY, AvuusT 11, 1921, At the Allen. Stepping from high school in San Francisco less than a year ago, Ethel Shannon, a demure and subtle little miss, who proudly boasts that she is of Trish descent, is seen as leading lady for Charles Ray In his newest In¢e-Paramount satire on rura] life, "An Old-Fashioned Boy," which com- es as the feature offering to the Al- len theatre f8r three days commenc- ing today. Entering pletures as an "extra," she soon won a berth in the ingenue class and from there followed her opportunity to play leading roles Miss Shannon will be seen in the role of Betty Graves, an ultra-fashionable soclety girl with a supefeilious dis- position, which causes her sweet- heart, David Warrington (Charles Ray), much trouble and WOrry. "And Old-Fashioned Boy" was di- rected by Jerome Storm from a story by Agnes Christine Johnson, author of many Ray successes, including "Alarm Clock Andy," "The Girl Dod- gor." The game was a good one, but the support given to it was miserably poor. It does not speak much for the fans that they would not turn out to support a game for such a worthy cause. The crowd that was there was enthusiastic but the num- ber was far too small. James and Ada battled - on 'the mound, James for Lakeviews and Ada for Verona. Both pitched good games, seven hits being taken from Ada and six from James. Neither team scored for the first two innings, but Lakeviews fourth, following with four more of . the same in the fifth. Both teams came In strong at the last, the Ver- ona nine scoring their first in the fourth inning and then staging a four-run rally in the last of the seven rounds. It failed to go high enough, however, and Lakeviews remained victors. The teams: Lakeviews--H, Bird, 3b; Purvis 1b; Saunders ss; Beswick ¢; W.
