Letters to the Editor] Stick to Facts, Dr, Edwards. Kingston Nov. 22.--(To the Edit. or): I note in the issue of the Stand- ard of yesterday a report of your meeting at Truedel's Hall, Bath Road, held last Saturday evening. At which meeting you are reported as saying that the farmers would be tax- ed upon their land not improved, or in other words broken land, upon their farms. That is not a fact. The fact is that the Progressive party intends to tax unimproved land, meaning land held for speculative purposes. There are 358 millions of land in the dominion, §3 of which is improv- ed land leaving 305 unimproved, upon which it is intended to place a land tax! I submit it is most unfair that speculators ehould get their land values increased at the expense of the farmer or homesteader. Speak facts, doctor. . Do not mislead. Thanking you, Mr. Editor, I remain, Yours respectfully, ~--R. J. BUSHELL. Was a Great Success, The annual thanksgiving supper, held in the basement of St. Mark's, Deseronto, on Nov, 16th, wag a great success all round. The menu was good. Six long tables fairly groaned with everything that could tempt the appetite of the most fastidious pers- on. A arge number of ladies, young girls and young boys waited on a cord crowd of people who went aw. thoroughly satisfied. The programe after the supper was excellent, a cre- dit to all taking part in it. The rec- tor, Rev. C. E. 8. Radcliffe, B.C.L., tendered to the ladies of St. Mark's, assisted by the men of the congrega- tion the best thanks and the highest praise of the large audience for the splendid supper and concert at the clase of the evening. Age may bring wisdom, but some men we know will have to outlive Methuselah if they ever make good.
