Kingston, March 24th.--(To the Edi Jory ---As visitor to Kingston and as a | Citistian, I have read with painful in- terest the account in your paper of the discussion in the Sydenham Street Me- thodist church on "the Saviour's re- turn." To me it seems clear that any- one who accepts the Bible 'as the in- | errant, inspired Word of God (and did so) can-do-not-other than believe did soé¢ can do no other than believe fully in the literal, personal return of Christ from heaven for those who are saved by His grace. And why should this involve "scrapping the Epistle to the Hebrews and the Epistle to the Ephesians," as Mr. Bell asserts? The writer of" the Hebrews epistle says: "Once in the end of the age hath He appeared to put away sin by the sacri- fice of Himself, And as itis appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment; so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and' unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salva- p | tion."--Heb. IX.: 26-28 i | the Word, {| ish."--Ephes, VI. Paul's letter to the Ephesians says: "Christ loved the church and gave Him- ; that He might sanctify and with the washing of water by that He might present it to glorious church, not having cleanse it Himself a spot or wrinkle, or any such thing, but | that it should be holy and without blem- : 25-27. John XVI, 3, tells us plainly when He will thus present the church to Himself. "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself that where I am there ye may be also." So that both Hebrews and Ephesians clearly teach the Lord's return, Mr, Bell says that "God's eternal purpose is to make known through the church the mess: of the Gospel to save all men." He eyidently has in mind a passage in the Ephesian epistle, but a careful read- ing of that passage will reveal that something quite different is said. Let us treat God's Holy Word with the 're- verence due to it and quote it correctly. t it actually says in Ephesians IIL, 10 and 11, is this: "To the intent that now unto 'the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be own by the church the manifold wis- dom of God, according to the eternal urpose which 'He ypirposed in Christ | our Lord." hat the principali- ties and powers referred to are, can be seen in Ephesians VL, 12, where theyare again mentioned. It is the wicked iritual forces against which the true Christan pend pu to i whale system of oi evil. is ing known je Fn in forming a' church of those who, as guilty sinners, believe on the Lord Jesus Chri : While it 3 quite true Shit God's irq sent purpose is that none sho peris He ves only those aly Al The viour personally.
