"Dogs delight to bark and °bite," is a time-worn saying. The canines may bark without getting into seri- ous trouble, but when they bite and attack people on the street, there is trouble for the oWwaer. Mrs. Mary Ann Hutchins, Welling- ton street, is the owner of a dog she prizes very much, but the dog has a habit of attacking peopie as they pass along the street. The other day, a well-known citizen was pass- ing and the dog attacked him. The police summoned the owner before the magistrate Thursday morning, but she did not appear until after the court was over. Sherlock made so bold as to drive a heavy tractor along Clarence street on Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Sherlock told the magistrate that he did not know about the laws governing Kingston's pavements, and that he had been accustomed to driving tractors on pavements in other cities. The magistrate imposed a fine of $2 and costs, but the mecused pro- tested, and asked if he had permis- sion to appeal. THREE COUNTY BRIDGES Are to Be Constructed at Ve- rona, Collin's Bay and Front Road. -- The good roads ocmmittee of the County of Frontenac has decided to do considerable bridge work during the summer months. On Thursday morning, R. H. Fair, county road superintendent, asked six firms to tender on the new bridges which wiil be constructed. The largest one to be erected will be at Verona. The old steel bridge on the outskirts of the village, which has done service for years, is to be taken down and replaced by a new one. The new structure will be put on a new loca- tion. The reason for taking down the old bridge is to straighten the road at this point. It has been very dangerous for years, as people who are driving from Hartington along the road are unable to see the turn which leads unto the bridge until they are right up to it. 'The com- mittee has purchased some land to make it possible {0 construct a straight roadway leading to the bridge. The new bridge will be about thirty feet in length and will be steel placed om concrete piers. 'This road is known as provincial county road No. 3. A new steel bridge will be erected in the village of Collin's Bay. The structuré which has done service for years is very narrow and getting very dangerous. a The bridge on the front road near the golf links fs to be taken down and will be replaced by a steel structure. This work will require a large number of men. the work on the Battersea road as well as doing other work in the townships of Kingston and Storring- ton. General repair work will be done all over the county. R. H. Fair figures that he will re- quire about ona hundred men when the season is at fits height. -------------- ROCHA. Band Played.
