PROGRAMME | WAS NOTEWORTHY | {First Day's Schedule Was ar Winner--John Duxbury Scores High. | What {about the programme: | The following is an exact copy of | the article appearing in the Niagara Falls Evening Review of June 20th, |1922, reporting on the first day's programme of Chantauqua. With such a programme as was given at the Chautauqua Tent yes- terday the interest ought to mount speedily, for the programmes were simply excellent, and as we heard one remark. "The programme of the {first day alone was worth the whole price of the season's ticket." Ald. Wilkinson at the afternoon meeting fittingly welcomed Chautau- jqua to town, and introduced Mr. Campbell, who is manager oNthe tent and chairman. In his opening remarks Mr. Caap- {bell complimented Niagara Falls, |Ont., on its many features of special Yinterest, The Ferguson Operatic | Co. made a hundred per cent. hit {from their opening number, "Ting- a-ling," "Thru Songs Beloved," new songs, Negro Spiritual songs, extracts from the Mikado and Harry Lauder's songs to the end of the programme. This company not only sing excel- lently but their acting is clever. Their audience is kept at tip-toe of interest from first to last. : The programme in the evening was high-class. The Ferguson Operatic Co. provided the first part of the pro- gramme, giving excerpts from the opera "Martha." The major part of the evening's programme was given by Mr. John Duxbury of England. Mr Duxbury, has appeared in the Falls before, and left behind him gn excellent reputa- tion. He is said to be England's greatest reciter and that is quite easily believed, judging by his work here last night, He gave a powerful rumber from Les Miserables, The Shad¢gs' Banquet and Old Farmer Gray, He has that rare talent of presenting the scene before his hear- ers with no apparent effort. _ Mr. Duxbury fis the true artist, and Chautauqua is to be congratulated in securing such high class talent. Fallg, Ont Day Niagara says First The above-mentioned programme will be given at Kingston on Satur- day, July 1st. Get your season ticket now. They will not be sold after Chautauqua opens. Among the places to get a share of the supplementary estimates are these: Kingston, repairs to drydock, $1,200; Kingston harbor, rip-rapping of causeway, $3,200; Kingston Royal Military College, $2,800.
