MONDAY, JULY 17, 1922. THE DAILY BRITIS H WHIG. 9 -- Ee -- "70 CRICKET Lakeviews Resign From By the Sporting Editor . i A general meeting of the Fronte- | nac-and Lennox and Addington Base- ball League was( held in the British Whig offices on Saturday evening and, while the four walls are still | Jeft standing, it is not expected that the Whig building will ever be the same againias a résulf. There were fireworks in plenty and the meeting lasted from eight-thirty till<after eleven, the battle never ceasing dur- ing that time. - Here is What Happened. The pro'est against Lakeviews con- cerning game on July Sth by Wolfe Island was sustained, mainly on the grounds that Lakeviews had neglect ed to make the necessary deposit of ten dollars. As a result the secretary of the league was tendered the resignation | of the Lakeviews Club from the lea- gue. A toss was made to decide on "he rlay-off of the two grounds, and; the Lennox Group winning, decided to Pay their first game away from home. Lakeviews "Railroaded"? Perhaps It is just as well that mat- ters have turned out this way, Lake- Views were in a fair way to winning the group in spite of handicaps but will fare better playing exhibitioa games independently. They neglect- &! to post their forfeit and have broken rules several times, so they ! have expected nothing but could trouble Personally, I think it would have nade no difference had they posted | & forfeit, for there seemed to be an attitude among many of the county of Frontenac representatives which | en EASY FOR ODESSA Odessa trampled all over the home team at Enterprise in a one-sided County League game on Saturday afternoon, the final score being 22 to 1. The visitors excelled in every department of the game, and the Ern- terprise lads never had a chance after the fifth innings. They battled game- ly until the eighth, and then went to Dleces, allowing eleven men to &core, rwostly through very bad errors. The fielding was at fault for the grevigus loss, though the visiting swatters wero at home with the bat as well. Some good hefty clouting was shown during the contest, the best of which being the home run made by Clifford Smith in the eighth innings. Several triples were also scored, including H. Lee and Em- County League could be interpreted only as 'get the Lakeviews,, right or wrong." As far as Wolfe Island is concern- ed, they were within their rights in protesting, but the sportsmanship of thing can be easily questioned hey were beaten by a score of 17 to 3, and if McCullough, the playver-in dispute, can make that much differ- ence, then I'm going to write to John McGraw or Miller Hugging ~ about him. Messrs. Davidson and Garvin, pre-! sicent and secretary of the league re- {spectively, no doubt handled matters {as they saw their duty, but it might be pointed out that it is not custom- ary fos the secretary to over-rule tha president, nor to show so partisan a | Spirit, no matter how greatly pro- | voked and Mr. Garvin was certainly baited almost bevond endurance at times But at the same time they must be complimented for knowing their County League baseball to the last letter. | It is no credit to the Frontenac and lL.ennox and Adding'on Baseball league that it could not settle dif- ficulties arising without practically forcing one of its best teams to with- jaraw, In spite of allthe unruliness |of the Lakeviews, two games in a sea- son is enough to have taken away for | minor offences amd there was too | mueh of an air of "take trfor grant- |ed'" about the passing of the motion { | Im regards to the protest. It was {about to be waved aside as a ruling from the presidential chair without even a vote, when some person asked for one. The next questfon to come up is: Will the league accept the resignation of the Lakeviews? With all their faults, we love them yet, and we can't help but think that they might have been given a little belter show. A cm gt while McConnell, Lee and Conway scored one each. On Saturday evening, at the cricket 3 In a game which, althoug well con- tested, was Lakeviews' from start to finish. In the infield, and in places in thé batting list,' the visitors were good, but their outfield was weak, even ridiculous at times and the bat ting of the Lakeviews told on even such a star twirler as A. Lee. In the matter of pitching Scrim- ruager shaped up the better man than Lee on the whole and this #hould Place him as about the best in the Frontenac group. He allowed but seven hits, fairly well scattered. struck out five, and walked none. A Lee's record was ten hits, eight strikeouts, one walk, and one wild pitch, the last mentioned accounting for Lakaviews' second run. The band started to play in the very first inning. Sydenham had gone out one-two-three on two flies and a strikeout and Bird made first when Blake dropped the third strike. He was nipped at second when Compeau grounded to Young.
