In addition to the very large ex- hibit of beautiful flowers of differ- ent kinds, there is an exceptionally fine display of fruit, including dif- ferent varieties of apples, thirty-one kinds being represented; pears, plums and grapes, all the product of local industry. Gibson, the popular stereotyp- er, who is to be married this week, with a handsome mantel clock. Mrs. Thomas Maher, Brockville, is dead after a year's illness. She was born in Kingston, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Blake. Four married daughters survive. At a meeting of the directors of the Y.W.C.A. on Monday, Mrs. W. Jackson was elected president and Mrs. A. Lothrop corresponding sec- retary. The other officers remain the same. Canon FitzGerald, rector of St. Paul's' church, left on Tuesday for Grenville, Que., where he was for- merly rector, to preach on the oc- casion of the 91st anniversary and the harvest service on Wednesday. The funeral of the late Mrs. Thomas Compeau took place at 10 a. m. Lightning Cause of Conflagation West of Athens, Monday evening about 8.15 o'- :lock fire was discovered in the barn on the farm occupied by Fraser Darl- ing, three miles west of Athiens. The barn was a total with the gea- 3cn's crops. Although the cause of the fire is unknown, the barn being apparently all right fifteen minutes previous to the discovery, the blaze iz attributed to lightning, as a storm was raging at the time. The barn was owned by the Darling estate, one of the sons, Fraser occupying the farm. Fortunately the stock were not in the barn at the time or prob- ably they would have fallen a prey to the flames; THe loss is consider- able, however, as the crops had just been put into the barn: --i SUIT SPRANG A LEAK.
