That you should think how your city happened. That it is a story of progress and development. That it reveals a story of action and achievement. That no boom has furnished the formula of success. That constructive work, plus faith and action have made your city what it is to-day. That there has not been a broken link in the steady growth of your city. That it was first started by men with a vision. That you have the same class of men in your city to-day. That the real growth of a city broadens with the development of business men and that of the sur- rounding country. That the opportunity for your city to become a bigger, brighter and bet- ter city is here now. That it is time that every citizen make a personal investigation of his city and its resources. . That he should join the live eiti- zens that are putting his city for- ward and do his share. That the cities that act are the cities that prosper. That every city should be pro- gressive and have a forward vision. E. R. Waite, secretary, Shawnee, Oklahoma, board of commerce. CANADIAN PACIFICO Ottawa Train Service Kingston. DATES OF FALL FAIRS. I ---- sessssses Oct. 5-6. TEACHERS WILL GATHER In Kingston on Oct. 13th From Frontenac, Prince Edward and Lennox. Theachers from at least two, and possibly three counties, will assemble at Queen's on the afternoon of Oct- ober 13th om the occasion of the annual Teachers' Institute conven- tion. The teachers will include those from Frontenac and Prince Edward counties, and the Lennox Institute has also been invited. October 12th and 13th are the dat- es set for the conventions of the county teachers' institute throughout the provinée, and this year after the first day spent in private sessions the teachers from thiese counties will visit Queon's where Prof. J. F. Mac- donald, professor of English, will give an address on "Good and Bad Poetry." The gathering will include several hundred teachers and will be held $n Grant Hall, The Prince Edward County Instit- ute teachers will make an excursion on the steamer Brookville and an op- portunity will given them to see the college before the lecture. About one hundred are expected from Pic- ton, and as their time in the city will be limited the lecture will be early in the afternoon. 3 The Frontenac teachers will hold the first day's sessions at the court house and will wind up their pro- gramme by attending the lecture. On Thursday evening Prince of Queen's history départment will address them. The Lennox teachers have been in- vited and also the teachers on the city staff, The occasion will be unique for it will probably be the first time the teachers of the adjoining counties P| have met in joint session. This will be the first of the meet- ings that will probably make Queen's the centre for similar annual affairs. ---- Edward Douglas Armour, KC, Toronto, died on Tuesday.
