Duff of King- ston Chapter. - From the east, west, and north of Ontario, from the larger cities, from the towns and villages have come this week to Kingston the members of the Provincial Chapter of the Imperial Crder of the Daughters of the Em- pire. They constitute Ontario's mem- bers of that splendid band of women who stood behind the men at the front in a special sense during the Great War, and since Armistice Day, 1618, have used their brains, money and influence to heal the woumds of the great conflict, and yet to make it impossible for the children of Can- oda to forget the part their fathers, yes, and the'r mothers, took in thut great siruggle for Hberty. On Thursday morning at eleven o'clock the quarterly meeting of the Frovineial Chapter, 1.0.D.E., was formelly opened in Convocation Hall, Queen's University, with prayer and the singing of the National Anthem. A large number of officers, delegates 2nd members of the local chapiers be- ing present, Mrs. H. R. Duff, 1st vice-president of the Kingston muni- cipal chapter, reading the following address of welcome: # "Madam Regent, members of the Ontaric Provincial: "I have been given the honor and I consider it a great one, on behalf of the Kingston Chapters of the Imper- fal Order of the 'Daughters of the Empire, of welcoming you here to- day. You have beem a Jong time com- ing Madam Regent, we have wanted you very much and our welcome is sincere and hearty. We are rather far from the heart of things 'way down east' here, and it has not been w, | ponsible for many of us to wittend the provincial meetings and #t means a lot, a great lot, to meet face to face with those whose names we know so well and whose words for "he order we so'much appreciate. "You have come, many, perhaps most of $ou, from larger cities but you cannot have come from one more loyal than Kingston and when you visit as I trust you will, the Royal Military College, the Memorial Hall, or even glance at the honor roll in this university, you will eee that"in the great war, we gave.freely and gave our best. "We hope this meeting will be most successful, that much will be ac- complished and am impetus given to the work of the order now that the siimulus of war work is over. You weloome and #t would {ll-become me to encroach on his worship the mayor so 1 'will merely re , however glad we are to have you and to hope that you may find time to mix a Mttle en- joyment with your arduous work and that you will carry away very pleas- ant impressions of your visit to King- ston." Mrs. James O'Rfielly Replies. Mrs. James O'Reilly, Cornwall, re- plied as follows: "Madame President, fellow mem- bers of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire, Ladfes and Gentlemen: "I feel sure that the visiting mem- bers of the Order appreciate fully the very cordial terms in which the Kingston Chapters have welcomed us. * "As an old Kingstonian, I am de- lighted that this city hae been chos- én as the place of meeting for 1922 of the Provincial Chapter. ft 'gives us the great pleasure of meeting the our order here, many of whom are old and dear friends of mine, and af- fords those of us who-have not pre- viously known this good old eity, an opportunity of becoming acqualntsd 'With its beauties and scenes of his- mirable educational ' institutions which have made her a centre of cul. ture and enlightenment.
