~ SPORTING TO CRICKET THREE RUGBY GAMES WITH S8OCCER MATCH . Scheduled For This Afternoon . In ¥'ngston--S8tadium. and Lower Campus. There are three rugby games sche- duled for today in local circles, and a #oocer matoh.-In thesmorning Queen's IV, and Regiopolis mest in ono sec- #ion of the junior intercollegiate group. In the afternoon R.M.C. znd 'Queen's class in the other division of the jumiors, in the first game of a double fixture at the George Richard- son Memorial Stadium, while the sen- dor cadets take the fleld against ueen's seeonds immediately after in the intermediate intercollegiate group. During the afternoon, Queen's fower campus will also be busy when the R.C.A. soccer squad will meet 'that of the tricolor in the second of 'the Whig trophy games. Football fans, whether soccer or rugby, will ave plenty of entertainment all day today. . . In the firef junior rugby game the contest should be close. The Regi- ©opolis team held K.C.1, to a one point Jead and threatened to tie just as the full time whistle sounded. Queen's IV. were sadly trounced by K.C.I. but showed great improvement in the late Stages of the game and have been Yorking steadily ever since.. Both the battles between Queen's and R.M.C. will be interesting and closely contested. The juniors are Playing the second match, the first Daving been taken by Queen's. For the intermediate it is the opening | game. ------ Dan Patch made his record of 1.56 for the mile on Sept. 8th, 1906. 3 THE DAILY BRITISH WHIG. | INTERCOLLEGIATE MEET. [Three Universities in Annual Field | Day. | Only three colleges will be repre- {sented in the annual intercollegiate ,track and fleld meet to be held under | the auspices of the MoGill Track Club at the Stadium on Friday, The Royal Military College at Kingston has de- cided to stay out of the sports this | season, while the University of Mani- toba will be unable to send their ath- letes eastward in quest of the honors. The meet thus narrows down to a three-cornered struggle between the old rivals in intercollegiate sport, Mc- Gill, Varsity and Queen's, Tha deciston of R.M.C. and Man!- toba to have no representation is to be regretted. Recent reports from Winnipeg that the U. of M. had cleaned up in the western interco!- legiate meet, breaking eight records in sixteen events, indicate that the institution 'has gathered together a number of able performers on the track and fleld. A representation from the west would certainly add 'more interest and. competition tec the event. Varsity and Queen's athletes have been training steadily for the meet thie season 'and both universities will send strong teams to this city. The McGill entry will mot differ greatly from that which captured the inter- collegiate championship at Kingston last fall, The track club yesterday issued a list containing twenty-seven names of athletes who are eligible 10 take part in the sports, but under the intercollegiate ruling only eighteen n:ay be used. It 18 not yet known for certain whether Queen's will send a team to the meet but there may be develop- nrients before Friday. The Ottawa Journal in its report of the Queen's-McGill game says: Nature appeared to be . wearing Queen's colors and the maples on the old mountain overlooking the stad- ium were resplendent in red and yellow dresses under the blue sk?. At half time two huge clusters of hydrogen balloons in red and white, and red and blue and yellow with similar hued long streamers were set free and floated high in the sky like gorgeous gargantuan grapes. Queen's were accompanied by two mascots. Alfie Pierce, the negro who was a trainer 30 years ago and more, who gave his voice for Queen's and "Boo Hoo," a playful blackbear, whb took the place of "Gee Whiz," last year's 'mascot, now doing ser- vice as a rug. Cannot Afford to Fumble. The H ton Spectator remarks: Queen's will be here next Saturday for an exhibition game, and Tigers cannot afford to fumble as they did on Saturday. While thére may be no Conachers on the Kingston team, it is a well-drilled machine, which takes greater advantage of mistakes than the Argos did. At Buenos Aires, the Argentine Derby was won by the three-year-old favorite, Rico, The race was worth 80,000 pesos; the distance was 3,500 meters, which Rico covered in two minutes and thirty-seven seconds. J. T. Haxall, of Princeton, kicked the longest goal from placement (65 yards) against Yale, November 30th, 1882. In his write-up of the Queen's- MoGill game in the Ottawa Citizen, George A. Mackie, has the follow-| their showing Saturday, Queen's may well be considered as Inter-Collegiate and Dominion | championship = contenders. They have confidence: in themselves and their handlers, and the old fighting spirit of Guy Curtis' days seems to have experienced a re-incarnation in the person of Leadley, Batstone, Thomas, et al. 'The Queen's team and supporters deeply resent the aspirations which have been cast upon the bona fide student character of some the play- ers, notably Batstone and Thomas. This fact was very apparent in the manner, of their attack. The wing men literally "paved the earth" in their anxiety to come to grips with their opponents, and while they played clean football, it was not of the parlor variety. McGill In defeat were not dfs graced. They went down with col- ors flying and fought to the end against superior strength and sea- soning. Grondin has the weight and balance to make great. improvements in this event. Hunter, a basket-ball player, who just reaches the six-foot-four mark in height, kept them moving the high jump mark up until he reached five feet, 5 inches, and then stopped. The same man has shown good form in the discus throwing. Il luck gave him a small mark of 84 feet, 6 inches, yesterday, but he has hurle ed the discus as far as 102 feet. ------------ Queen's should make 'a| Gene Sarzan is 21 years old.
