The annual convention of the Kingston Teachers' Institute opened at Queen's University on Thursday evening, with an address on "The Hidden Beauty of Plants and An!- mals," delivered by Dr. J. W. Emery of the Stratford Normal School. The address showed that even ordinary and common things have sometimes exquisite beauty because of their adaption to the particular require- ments of their existence. The lant- ern slides used to illustrate the re- marks of the speaker were very beautiful, and the entire programme was greatly appreciated by the as- sembled teachers. The sessions were resumed on Friday morning, when the conven. tion was formally opened by Presi- dent J. J. Carty. The series of na'- ure study addresses were continued by Dr. Emery, in which he showed how to become acquainted with Mo- ther Nature, and the alllance be- tween nature study and literature. The morning session was featured with class singing by the pupils of Mrs. Gallaher, Robert Meek school, and of Miss Macdonald, Victoria - school." Inspectoy J. Russell Stuart gave an instructive address on some practical school matters, such as the relation between the teacher and the parent. On Friday afternoon the teachers were the guests of Major-General Sir A. C. Macdonell at the Royal Military College, where they wera shown the historic college buildings, as well the practical work of the cadets in training. 4 | To Hold Another Sitting Here.
