The woman who does all her own housework must, in most cases, do her marketing by telephone. For, even if she has the time to "go down street" to select meats and groceries, she feels that she owes it to herself not to overtire herself unnecessartly by doing a task Which could as eas- ily be performed over the telephone. And not only to herself--but to her family, as well, does the housekeep- er owe such prefautions in caring for her health, But, however we do our marketing, we must all go through "the same process of making out an order list. There are two ways of doing this: the efficient way, and the inefficient way. I know of a bride-housekeeper who makes out her order list by fly- ing into her pantry .at about 10 o'- clock n the morning and glancing frantically around; she sees the most glaring need in an instant and promptly goes to the telephone to order these thimgs--only to return to the pantry later on and find that she has overlooked some of the less apparent needs. But the efficient way of doing it, is this: After washing wour breakfast dishes, take a pencil and paper and 80 to your pantry, where your Or- der List hangs. Run your eye down this list from A to Y and ask your- self if you need to replenish any of the foods mentioned. If you are not sure without investigation, then go | trom jar to can and see how much of the contents of each is left. Jot down the foods you need, then go to the 'phone and order them. In this way, you are sure that you have overlook- ed nothing. For the sake of Beginner House- toswhich we have become accustom- ed. Many of the one-piece dresses are made princess style and have no belts at all. The waistline is indicated by embroidery or trimming. The conflicting positions of im- portant planets on this day impel the presage of a day of complications and perplexities. Whil& there is like- ly to be the easing up of ldng-baffi- ing situations, with the breaking away of oll obstructions, yet the fin- ancial outlook may be discouraging, and Jupiter is in an unfriendly posi- tion for worthwhile gain or pro- gress. The health may also prove to be a disturbing factor, and annoying circumstances may arise. Those whose birthday it is should give caréful attention fo their af- fairs, which may meet with complex Laspects despite certain favorable out- looks. The health should also be giv- en due attention. A child born on this day, although steady and 1e- liable, may be inclined to extrava- gance in the use of money unless carefully trained. History of Lace In Bedfordshire The Duke of Bedford has put the Colworth estate of 2,300 acres on the market. The offer includes the vil- lage of Sauldrop, where in the model ootiages erected by the Duke the an- cient occupation of pillow lace-metk- ing is still carried on. The industry, one which can be easily practiced at home, is three centuries or more old, Buckingham- shire, Bedfordshire and Northamp- are the principal areas where it is practised. England owes its lace to religious persecution abroad. Refugees came from the Low Countries. The earliest makers of "parchment lace," arrived in 1663; to be followed by makers of number of others, 3 As time went on Mothers taught the little ones the rudiments of lace- making at home, and later they were sent to a lace-making school to learn mysteries of the "kidney bean," the | "plated star," the * 'he "old trot." .|enclosed with the Laura.
