Io the City League double-header at the Harty Arena, on Wednesday { H. W. Watts the winner of the con- | test by a quarter of an inch. The match between T. M. Assels- tine's rink, skipped by P. D. Lyman, and R. C. Cartwright also went the thirteen ends and was wor on the last shot made by P. D. Lyman. Afternoon Games, L. T. Best R. H. Pair L. C. Lockett J. Angrove |S. W. Dyde G. J. MacKay H.W. Watts night, the Young Irishmen defeated AOH. by 6 triumphed over the R.C.A. by 3 to 2. Both games were fast and excit- ing and were witnessed by the best crowd of the season. While the hockey displayed was not up to the brand previously dish- ed up for the city league fans this year, yet the two games were splen- did exhibitions of the sport, and the league deserved better support from the fans of this city. There were just 234 cash customers, which is little ghort of ridiculous for a town of this size. Those faithful few who were there saw just about four times their 'honey's worth, and every one was tickled to death with the en- tire bill of fare. Live Wires vs. R.C.A. The Live Wires trotted a nifty team in the curtain raiser last night. The new arrivals included Gunn and Murray, and both of these men won their spurs on the games turned in by them. The Artillery- men also had Constantine in goal, and he starred throughout. In the first two periods, the Live Wires had very much the best of the! argument, and they took the ice for the final session at the long end of a 3 to 0 score. The soldiers came, hack with a stirring rally, however, and they had a distinct edge through- out the spasm, shutting out their opponents and almost pulling the game from the fire. The session was rather rough in spots, but both teams erred in this respect. The teams: R.C.A.--Constantine, goal; Panet and Brownfield, defence; Dougall, centre; R. Pugh and M. Pugh, wings, White, Haines and Lesage, subs. ' Live Wires--Brooks, goal; Bugel and Gunn, defence; Bellringer, cen- tre; Watts and Bullock, wings: Dun- lop and Murray, subs. S---------- Irishmen vs. A.O.H. The second contest, while not as| exciting as the first game, was a better all-round exhibition of hockey, +4and the play was fast, clean and of a very high grade. The teams ap- peared to be playing a more finished style, The first two periods were very close, the scores being 1-1 and 2-2 respectively. The Hibernians tallied the first goal, the Irishmen Jumped into the lead in the second period, oniy to see Davidson tie up the count Just before the bell rang. In the final session the Hibernians crumpled and Fred Brown and Terry Millan piled up three goals in quick sue- cession. The teams: Young Irishmen--McCarthy, goal; T. Angrove and N. Millan, defence; F, Brown, centre; Casterton and Dev- lin, wings; J. Millan and A, Angrove subs. . A.O.H--Taugher, goal; Williams and Moore, defence; Lanos, centre; Johnston and- George, wings; David- son and James, subs. Wednesday evening, when they defeated Belleville in the re- turn game of the series at the local rink by a score of 55 to 25. When the Kingston rinks played in Belle- ville, about a week ago, they were de- feated by ofght points, which means that the local curlers are twenty. two points up on the round. Although no definite | plans have been arranged, it is un- | derstood that the idea is to use all | the six sheets of ice and mixed matches will likely be played. CAR WINDOW BROKEN; SHOW TROUPE ROBBED " The Cat and the OCanary Company" Minus Elec- trical Equipment. "The Cat and the Canary" theatre company reported the theft of valu- able equipment on the arrival of their train at Kingston on 'Wednes- day. This equipment consisted of important electrical apparatus used in the scenery, and its loss from the car is a considerable handicap, and the management was obliged to ob- tain new parts from King- ston electricians. It is thought that the missing articles were stolen from the car at Ottawa for a window was broken open. Detectives are being employed on the case. CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN Fire Started as Result of Thawing Out Wager Pipes. "Safety First," should be the mot- to in thawing out water pipes. Dur- ing the cold snap many citizens have had water pipes frozen. Wednesday night, at 9.21, the firemen were call- ed to the home of Mrs. Kelliher, 150 Bagot street, where a fire had been started as a result of an endeavor to thaw out water pipes. Slight damage was done to the flooring. i ------------ Is Seeking a Grant. The Victorian Order of Nurses is handicapped in its work in Kingston owing to the {liness of Mrs. Robin- son and Miss Leader, two capable nurses. Funds are depleted and in the emergency, J. B. Walkem, secre- tary-treasurer, and director of the Dominion executive, is appealing to the city for an emergency grant of §600, to carry through the present situation, ere A Most Enjoyable Affair. The last Hotel Dieu euchre party of the season was held in the Nurses' recreation room, on Wednesday, and it was a most enjoyable affair. The convenors were Mrs. Lovett and Mrs, Sughrue. The ladies' prize was won by Mrs. Campbell, and Mr, Scanlon won the gentlemen's prize. There will be no more parties until aft Lenten, : -------- Porto Rico Pineapples.
