MGILL DEFEATED QUEEN'S CAGERS Throwing Intercollegiate Bas- ketball Into Three-Oornered Tie--Play-off at Ottawa. } Queen's basketeers met a dis- astrous day in Montreal on Satur- day. By defeating Sunbury 2-0 at Ver- ona in the semi-finals of the senior county hockey race, Verona tied up the battle and the teams now stand even with a 4-4 score on the round. They will meet at the Jock Harty Arena tomorrow afternoon to settle the argument and the winners will then meet Wolfe Island for the league championship. Saturday's game was a good one th the gosl-keepers of the teams turning in the star performances and Turner of Sunbury, excelling him- self in the nets, The stormy weather was not very favorable for the match but the ice was kept in fair shape and the ¢loge race made up for the bad weather. Verona secured the two counters in the first period and the remaining two frames were pcordless, despite wonderful efforts on the part of the open-ice players. - Sufbury--goal, Turner; defence, C. The first period end 2-1, the second 4-1 and the third 8-1, and the plucky efforts put forth by Biginburg could not stem the tide. C. Purdy made some fine rushes for Cataraqui from the de- ence and Hogan and Herron got in some good work on the forward Mne, Ellerbeck and Stlver did a lot of the work for the losers. . A rather stormy session of tha City Hockey league was held in the Whig building on Saturday after noon, the . conference lasting until tomo tine after the hour generally demanded by union operators. How- ever, the city league is not a union, although there still remains considerable unity, in spite of the sometimes stormy disputes of Satur~ day afternoon. The protest lodged by the Young Irishmen against the Frontenaes, in the junior series, dered, and was voted down. The. Frontenacs and Regiopolis were ordered to play a sudden death mateh at the earliest possible date, the witiner of this con- | test to go into the finals for the jun- ior championship 'with 8t. Mary's. _ R.C.A. and Live Wires will also ray a sudden~death game this week, at a date yet to be arrangid, to de- cide the right to enter the semi- finals. The Granites and Circle Bix will play their third game of their series on the same night, thus mak- ing a double-header which should attract a record crowd, The question of play-offs between the teams was then brought up and it was deécided that the Young Irish- men, who have won their group and" who are defending the cup, should be given a bye and that the semi' finalists should be the winners of the Jive Wires-R.C.A. and Granite-Circle Six games: This met with consider- able opposition from the (Granite re- presentatives, but the remaining teams were agreed that the change in the play-off plans would create more interest in the games. The appointment of a referee andi the date ofthe double-header will be" announced later, Snow, the 125 intercollegiate boxe ing champion, is somo warm cust- omer in spite of his name, His bout should bave.been, aftsr the fashion of a well-known film play, named: "Blood and, Snow."
